New horse Problem

Five years old is very very young and with the best will in the world he can't be well schooled because he hasn't really had that much time to get there. It may well be that he is taking the mickey but you can't treat this as a behavioural issue unless you eliminate a physical cause. Let us know how you get on with the vet.

Yes she is, she has been qualified for 25 years and was recommended to me by literally everyone in the local community. But if a vet is what everyone thinks il need then im happy to try anything to get my little man happy.

A fully qualified physio failed to warn me that my horse's stiff back muscles could have been kissing spines. She also missed my friend's horse and hers were so bad she was inoperable, and put down. Physio treated her for over six months and never once suggested getting a vet.

OP, get a vet. I see you have already decided to. Well done.

My friend now has a Connie the same age as yours and he would much prefer to hack than school as well. But they are fab little horses!

Hi everyone.

UPDATE. Thanks for all your advice. I had him thoroughly checked out by a vet and it all came back fine. All of a sudden from one day to the next he went from bucking at least 8 times a session in the school to the occasional one. The twisting has completely stopped, Crazy what a day can do. I recently moved to a very quiet yard which he seems happy with, and his respect for me is growing. I dont think he was taught any manners so completely took the mickey with me on the ground and riding, but he is starting to realise he cant get away with it. He does the occasional buck out on a hack but its now due to excitement rather then aggression.

I see light at the end of the tunnel :) thanks again
