New horse purchase fallen through - disappointed

I had seen a lovely Highland gelding and decided that he was just perfect for me but the owner has just e mailed me to say that she has decided today that she no longer wants to sell him. I am really disappointed and my 13 year old daughter is almost in tears because we were going to share him.

I have now decided that if I can't find a suitable horse by next summer I am going to give up riding. I really can't stand the stress of buying horses any longer! After my last experience I have become so wary that my next horse has to be absolutely perfect or I won't even consider buying it. I am getting far too old to be bucked off regularly!
 
It is absolutely gutting when this happens, but remember what is meant to be will be and the right one for you will come along - probably when you least expect it.
 
Oh no what a shame, but please don't give up you will find your dream. I only looked at 10 horses before I found George, but after falling off the 4th one I tried and breaking my nose and finger I began to think that I wouldn't be able to cope with horse ownership. Then I stumbled upon George and that was it the dream finally came true................I'm sure it will happen for you too.
 
Oh how awful. There will be the right horse out there for you believe me. I thought I would never find a friend again after I lost my beautiful boy to colic...nothing could replace him. But I eventually found my current horse who is just right for me and we now have a wonderful bond and he is everything I wanted. I do believe that fate lends a hand and the right horse will come along...usually when you least expect it.
 
I've just bought a cob for my 13yr old daughter and I to share. She is our 3rd horse as the first 2 didn't work out. Don't give up, I felt just like you, but bex1984 is right, you will find the right one. Also with our 2nd horse we were in two minds as to sell him or not, so you may find that the highland might be for sale again. I would ring the owners and say that if they do change their mind, to let you know. It's coming to a good time to buy, the summers coming to an end and there will be loads for sale. Its a real time consuming, frustrating business, trying to find a suitable horse/pony, but worth it in the end. Good luck!!!!!
 
If you're committed to a Highland, try the Highland Pony Society website.
They have a for sale section & also stud adverts so you should be able to contact any near you to see if they have any for sale or know of private individuals who may have.

so sorry to hear its fallen through, sounds like your having a rough time trying to find a new horse. Like others said please dont give up! When i was looking i found it so disapointing as we'd travel miles to see something that was completely not what i wanted, i saw so many unsuitable horses that i began to think there wasn't a horse out there for me and i was being too picky. I never thought i d find my dream horse but i have and i m so relieved the whole process of looking for one is over as its so stressful!

keep at it and you will find something suitable, dont feel you have to lower your standards or accept second best because the right one for you will be out there somewhere. good luck! xx
 
I do have my heart set on a Highland. I can find plenty of youngsters but I don't have the time (or talent) to bring on a 3 year old and all the older ones seem to be sold when I ring up about them! I am sure that I will find one eventually. I have had a look at the Highland Pony website but I object to paying £10 to place a wanted ad. Must be the Yorkshire blood in me - lol!
 
Cinders, I am really pleased for you that you've found a horse. Hope all goes well for you!

I have just rung someone who breeds Highlands and is not too far away so, even if she hasn't got anything for sale at present, at least she is one more contact who knows what i am looking out for. Something will come along in the end for me and my daughter I'm sure.
 
When we bought our first pony the owner pulled out because the child couldnt part with him. The pony was a rock steady first pony but not a jumper. The parents had got a lovely 14.1 for the daughter to go onto, but compared to Rags she was scarey. A month or so later the daughter had been getting on better with her new horse and realised that she had to move on, so phoned us up to see if we were still interested, so as someone else said lodge your interest.

Deciding to sell is not something people do lightly, so it may still come off.

A really nice woman who posts on here called 'the_watcher' has a Highland and seems to know a lot of Highland breeders etc., so might be worth PMing her to ask if she knows of any nice ones for sale?

£10 does not seem like very much to place a wanted ad though - especially as that site sounds like exactly the right place if you're looking for a Highland! If I were you I would fork out for this - it might save you an awful lot of time and trouble!

Thanks magicmillbrook - I don't think he will come up for sale again as his owner says her mother in law is going to ride him now so he will be kept in the family. Still, maybe it wasn't meant to be.

htobago - the_watcher has been in touch about a Highland which her friend was selling but I think that she may now be sold because the lady was going to get back to me if the people viewing her didn't buy her and I've not heard anything further.

I may go ahead and place the wanted ad in due course but I have placed a free ad in the meantime on a site which Highlandgirl told me about. Funnily enough someone contacted me about an ad they'd seen for a a pony which sounded perfect for me and, guess what, it was the one that I was due to see on Sunday before he was withdrawn from sale!
 
Hi watcher, yes, I've spoken to Tony from Brownbread but they have just sold a pony which would have been suitable and they don't have any more at present. If you do hear of anything please think of me. Thanks. Annie
