...And I am nervous!

I have never bought a horse before. My mare was gifted to me after being on loan so I have never had to do this until now.

I am quite anxious about being sold something that isn't genuine and getting it home to find it can't actually hack alone etc! I will be getting a 5 stage vetting done if/when something comes along.

I'm also not sure I am quite ready so I am going to take my time with it as I'm still somewhat grieving, if that's the right way to put it, about my mare's retirement.

Fingers crossed...

Well friends at my yard sold a pony on Saturday..looked at one to buy last weekend and yesterday travelled to Yorkshire and bought the second one they ve seen. Some folk take days and others months to buy. I wish you tons of luck finding a new horsey partner.

Basics, ask lots and lots of questions shooing grooming veterinary questions hack alone/ company lorry loading etc. Make a list of questions preferably recorded before going to view, replay and listen carefully to the answers, ask them to send you a ridden video ask a more knowledgeable friend to watch the video with you, take your knowledgeable friend with you to the viewing ( no offence meant to you 2 sets of eyes and ears are better than one ) at the viewing ask the same questions and check if the answers are the same as when you phoned, someone MUST ride the horse in all gaits before you get on, check the horse in the stable see it tacked up, check its water bucket is full, have a 5 star vetting with vet of YOUR choice and blood samples as well, turn up early so you can check if it has been ridden or lunged before you get there, don't be bullied into buying, if you leave a deposit get a receipt that says deposit refunded if it fails vetting. It sounds terrifying but it's not, take your time, pause, think, and re assess as you go along, enjoy the experience.
