Im having a few problems getting my new horse settled. He was turned out with a mare whom he got really attached to. Now hes been turned out with 1 other gelding and he keeps running up and down the fence for the mare, shes doing the same in her field and shes teasing him (squirting). Ive been told unless he settles down he will be turned out on his own. Im not keen on this. Its a small yard and I think hes used to being in a bigger yard.

So what would you do?

I don't think it's anything to do with the size of the yard. I am puzzled as to why he was turned out with the mare in the first place. He has built up a bond with her whichis always very strong when horses are in a new home. Now he has been wrenched away which will make him even more insecure. The YO are to blame. New horses should be turned out separately next to the herd they are intended to join. After a week or so they can be integrated into that herd so long as things are peaceful over the fence. Your horse should be allowed to go in with the mare if she was the one he was turned out with at the start. Whatever is the YO thinking?

Ive no idea what YO is thinking. He was better at being caught last night and was great on his own in the stable. Hes got to stay with the gelding hes been put in with and she wont let him go in with the herd. Hmm soon it will be time to look for another yard I think.
