we have just brought a 7 year old cob. when we went to see him and have him vetted he was good as gold on his own, no other horse were about.
now we have him home we brouht him in the stable, away from the other horse, and he was extremly nervous and kept pacing around the stable all hot headed. not his usual self. and he wouldnt stop licking!
ok, we have oly had him for 1 day, and we hope it will gradually get better, but can anyonemake any suggestions how we could hlp calm him down?

give him time, if he's only just arrived its a big change he's experiencing! New people, surroundings, smells. Must all be a bit scarey, I'm sure he'll chill out.

i think he just needs time to settle in moving to a new home with strangers is very stressful for horses as we all know they are creature of habit. some horses take to the change better than others just spend time with him groom him as this relaxes him and help to build a bond also let him have some alone time so he has a chance to think try not to worry being a little uptight is only to be expected within a few weeks he'll be alot more settled it just takes time.

I would think it is one of those 'give it time' situations.

He is probably stressed about moving and having new owners etc etc. The best thing I would think you can do is spend time brushing him/letting him graze in hand etc just to get used to you.

Ah bless him - if he needs to be able to come in on his own everyday then make sure you're bringing him in and feeding him every day away from other horse - they do settle!
