I have a new young horse, who has settled pretty well into the new yard, although has got rather attached to my other mare. I am slowly weaning her away from her, so they are being turned out further apart. New horse other than when worked has never been away from others. If I tie her up in the yard alone she is not horrendous but fusses quite a lot. Do you think I should just make sure there is always her friend with her in the yard (where she wil stand quietly) or continue bringing her up alone until she gets used to it?

Continue doing what you are doing until she gets used to it.
As long as it's not dangerous, then better the annoyance and fussiness now for her to get used to, than later at a show or when she's injured and needs boxrest or similar.

She's bound to feel insecure, its a new environment and shes still trying to find her place.

Agree with others about persevering - will be worth it in the end!

Keep doing what you are doing, little and often. It might take some time, but it will be worth it, make sure she is safe and try and ignore!

Horses, even experienced ones can take a long time to settle in a new yard. I would tie her up for short periods and gradually increase the time alone. When we teach young horses to leave the yard, we just go to the end of the drive to start with then increase the distance.
