This is Hetty Waintropp Investigates. Hetty came to join us 3 months ago to fill the stable left by the loss of my beloved Dabs earlier this year. She is a 3yo cob x Clyde, and is intended to be for my OH to ride and drive eventually.

Due to her age and that she's got a bit of growing and even-ing out to do I am taking things pretty steady with her. So far she has learnt:

Having headcollar on and off and leading (took a while to get headcollar on the first time but since has been pretty easy)
Being caught in field
Picking up feet and having them trimmed
Clipping legs (asked for advice on here about Feather care and then found a touch of mallenders so clipped legs all round for now)
Loading on and off lorry
Lunging
Long-reining
In hand stuff
Walking out along road and happy with traffic
Human mounting from ground and off block
Walking on and stopping with human on board (as of yesterday 😁). Which I am particularly pleased with as I haven't had a walk-by-the-side helper to assist so she has just had me on my own to work stuff out from.

So far she has happily accepted pretty much everything and has been in general a very good egg. Plan is to get her walk hacking in the next few weeks.

i think hetty is up there for prettiest pony ever! don’t tell my girls🤣

Assuming they come out OK, here are some pics of Lulu as promised. She is a 2 yr old standard filly. Bold but gentle, and very well mannered. She settled in without much bother (my 2 little duns turned into randy teenagers for a while, but soon got over it), and is now fully integrated into the routine.
The 3rd photo would have been brilliant of all 5, but Lulu put her head down just as I snapped.

My lad got a pink Y on him 😂😂 I am trying to find a way to get the damned stickers off without too much damage to the coat.

I bought Finn a couple of months ago to keep me busy whilst I give my youngster a year off, due to suspensory issues.
He’s 13yrs and very sweet - like an overgrown Labrador. He seems to be great fun and am looking forward to doing more with him over the coming months. And get him to lose some weight and get fit.

Don't say that 🙈🙈🙈 the last time we bought one off of shetland at the sale he didn't have paint on him 🙈🙈 this one does 🙈🙈
It might be worth trying nail varnish remover @Elf On A Shelf? I used it to get paint out of my hair (enthusiastic decorating followed by an important work meeting the next day) and it did a great job. I don't know if it would make the coat look dull or not, but it wasn't noticeable on my hair. With pony hair you should be able to avoid getting it on their skin, I put some on a cotton pad and then pulled the pad down the length of the hair, wrapping it around a reasonably small section of hair at a time.*

*this sounds like I had covered my head in paint, but I promise it wasn't that bad 😂

I might have done a thing….

And my husband BOUGHT A PONY! They’ve gone off for two weeks of handling livery then we’ll bring them home (his is the chestnut - colt). He’s already planning fun handling and brushing and walks with his new baby.

My summer purchase. (Goodness I miss summer already) 6 yr old Darci. I haven’t done much with her as she struggled to settle for a while and I didn’t find the time to commit fully to her but we will try and survive winter and make a start with her next year.

After Tali at 14.2 being the biggest pony in the field for a while at 16.1 (I swear she’s grown bigger 😂) she is mostly known as the big horse.

Is that 3 you've bought? details needed.

Yes. We went to look at the Nattadon ponies for possible future ponies for the kids. Husband was very keen on going so… off we went. We were standing looking at them, noticing that one was very friendly and writing down interesting numbers, when a bigger head popped up a few pens down. Reminded me so much of the one we lost. So I said to husband to go have a look. He wandered off, got talking to the man who owned them. Discovered that the head we had seen was attached to a yearling filly and that there was a bigger chestnut colt who should make minimum 14hh. Rather liked the colt. By the time I arrived, he was set on buying it. I would have bought anything he wanted - he’s been so grumpy without his own pony!! I like the filly - she’s all gangly with a yearling awkward body but has such a kind face, was letting the foals push and shove her, and one even ate a hole in her mane! Farmer reckoned 12.2hh for her but given my experience of feeding them vitamins and protein and seeing them shoot up, she could make more. He did say they make a far smaller height on the moor than they will in a domestic situation with good grass.

Little Nattadon spotty was super friendly in the pen and both my kids fell for her. There was quite the bidding war for her and she cost almost as much as the other two together! Not that any were expensive…

Desensitizing work, clippers, (electric toothbrush is a good starter) brolly, flag, drone, clinkyckanky measuring tape, chainsaw "with chain removed", anything at all that causes a problem, bit at a time not rushing, slowly slowly catches a monkey 😊

@maya2008 I bet you are the most popular parents tonight !

Well, sort of. We got them the pony they desperately wanted, then packed it off to handling livery because they’ll want a pony they can cuddle and brush and I want her a bit more prepared for that before she arrives home! She’ll be my son’s first, then my daughter’s when he gets too big, so they can both love her. Only two weeks until she comes home - it’ll be like Christmas 🤣!
