Hi all, all being well with her vetting my new baby horse should be arriving this week! She’s only 4 and currently stabled 2 hours away from where she will be.

I’ve never bought a baby this far away before, how would you travel her? Fleece or no rug? Brushing boots and over reach or travel boots? Tail guard or no?

I’ll also be using a transporter 3.5ton probably as have no transport myself

How lovely and exciting. I travel my girl in brushing boots and over reach boots and a tail bandage. Be careful though with a young horse and brushing boots on hind legs as they can make them kick. The weather here is pretty warm and when we go to shows I dont put anything on her as far as rugs go but if its a bit cold a summer sheet should be enough I would have thought. Do let us have sight of pictures please and I for one would love to know about her breeding and what you intend to do with her. Good luck with her.

She isn't a baby, sorry I had to say it.
Anyway do you know how much of any travelling she has done before?
If she hasn't done any the transporter may dictate how she travels, if the partitions are secure I would travel her loose with nothing but a leather headcollar, it's how my filly arrived last year and she was on the lorry for about 10hrs I think, she walked off as cool as a cucumber.

Thank you, I don’t know if she’s worn travel boots before and tbh once I have her the journeys we do will be short so most likely wouldn’t use them again. Trying not to get too excited as I’ve had a few failed vettings and been looking for a some months! But she’s a gorgeous Chestnut ISH but 3/4 Irish draft blood, hoping to get out eventing with her in the future!

Well she’s still young 🤷🏻‍♀️ she was imported from Ireland end of March and then travelled from one yard to another but that’s all I know of

No rug and probably no boots, depending on how accustomed she is to wearing them. Has she actually travelled before?
She’s worn brushing boots front and behind before, don’t know about any other form of boots. Yes she travelled from Ireland end of March to a yard and then from one yard to another

I think most professional transporters prefer to travel with lots of space and "naked", so to speak. That's been my experience anyway. And I have also seen fidgety travellers come off a trailer with travel boots half way off and stuck around their feet, so they can cause more harm than good in some situations.
I dont like travel boots at all, in fact I dont own any. I find they slip and make them kick hence why I use brushing boots and over reach boots. If its a transport company picking her up then they will just put her on as she is. We need pictures.

Once she’s officially mine I’ll add pics! 🍊

I stopped using travel boots on Bailey but used them when my wobblers went to hospital because he was so ataxic and stumbling around and I was worried he'd injure himself.

If I were you I would just leave her naked. Sometimes they can cause more harm then good.
