We have had about 3 days dry weather so parts of the fields are drying up nicely. So today I decide that I can electric fence a dry bit so that the new horse with mud fever can go and get some grass (she is getting desperate in the menage!). Popped her out and all is peaceful so I nipped off to pick up some food from the local shop. Returned 15 minutes later to find horse on the other side of the fence standing up to her fetlocks in mud! The fence is completely untouched. I put her back and she gave me a pitying look, walked slowly over to the electric fence and pinged over it again

So its back in the menage for her (just hope she doesnt pop out of that or I am in trouble. Does anyone else have this problem?

One of our newer horses (been here 6 weeks now) has been turned out 3 times so far. First time, fine. Second time he jumped out onto the lane - we figured he was het up because he had hunted that week. Today they went out for the first time in 3 weeks, the little sod jumped out AGAIN! No reason for him to do it at all, he has company and there is bugger all in the lane to jump out for - tis odd!

Actually thats the really irritating thing, it wasnt greener at all! Where she was the grass hadnt been grazed since the autumn so was pristine, 4 inches long, perfect. Where she went was bit the horses trudge across to get to the winter field - mashed up, muddy etc!

i have the same problem with my pony (he is 13.2), if im lucky he pops the fence (and then has the cheek to question me when i ask him to pop a 3ft fence!!!!), if im unlucky he not only goes through it he also makes sure it is properly broken, given up with fencing now. He was originally sectioned off cause he was getting too fat and i was worried about laminitis, but i have had to settle for a grazing muzzle!!!

When I first had my horse he tried every single paddock in the yard - popping the 4 foot electric fence, closely followed by me coming to get him! (Well I didn't actually 'pop' the fence!) I was despairing with him. I even had to move yds to one where there was post and rail - but he still popped 5 bar fences. He seems to have given up in his older age..................I hope...........

My old horse used to clear the 5ft poly posts!

Some horses seem to do it "just because they can". Very irritating.
