I am looking for some inspiration! My lovely new horse has no name on her passport, and I am absolutely useless with coming up with names. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could register her as?

The dealer I bought her from *thinks* her stable name is Molly - that's what they used anyway. She is a grey 16hh ISH, her sire is Killea Hill View (Sire: Carrabawn View, Dam: Farrah) and her Dam is Aqua (Dam sire Kildalton Gold, Dam: Cailin Beag). As far as I can find she has one named full sibling called Kylnehone Cailin Killea. Kylnehone is where she was bred.

I have to send the Horse Sport Ireland people 4 choices. My initial (unimaginative thoughts) was something like: Killea Sea View or Kylnehone Sea View. Is there a naming protocol you should follow??

If anyone has any inspiration that would be fabulous!

I would post a picture but I'm not sure how.

You shouldn't use Killea as the first part of the name as it is the prefix used by the breeders of the sire and not the breeders of your mare , you may be able to use Kylnehone.

As for names something with aqua or water in it, view or hill.
Aqua View, High Water, Misty View, Waterfall, I like to use part of the sire and dams name if possible.

Are you allowed to include the prefix in the name like her brother appears to have as long as its not at the start?
Would make it Kylnehone Sea View Killea. Otherwise I like Kylnehone Sea View :)

You probably could but it is very long and not necessary to have a prefix and suffix, don't forget it has to be written out on every entry form and some passport agencies will put a limit on how many characters can be used including spaces, I think Weatherbys has 18 as the maximum but the Irish board may allow more.

Once you decide on a name you like you can check on this link to see if it is available.

Thanks for the suggestions and clarifications on what prefix/suffix I can use as I wasn't sure. Do I need to get permission to use the Kylenahone prefix? I was also keen to use something that refers to her Dam and Sire, was struggling to think of something Aqua related other than sea, lol. I believe it's also 18 characters for Irish board also.

Quite liking the Misty View option since she is grey as I always associate the name Misty with grey animals. Would Kylenahone Misty View be an option?

I like the idea of Sea View, some connection to the Aqua. Or combine with the 'misty' suggestion to make Sea Mist?

How about the following - Playing with the theme of Sea View:

Radharc na Mara

Sea View/View of the Sea in Irish

Stable name could be Mara

That's lovely.

Water Vista; Eau de Vie; Chasing Waterfalls; Lalique (that has a bit of Hill and Aqua in it); Erin Go Bragh (this is a rare Irish whiskey, and whiskey is 'the water of life' Aqua Vitae); Tullamore Dew (also and Irish whiskey); Dawn Dew; Mountain Dew; Lugnaquilla (A mountain that meets the sea)...

Like this one (nice to see you back QB) ☺

Yeah - I thought it was quite good when I found it :D Thank you - good to be back - work is a little bit more chilled so I get some play time on the computer! Also needed to have my time out post SS organising!!

Love these too :)

QB and HH they are great options, thank you :D

I like Radharc na Mara (Sea View) but you may need to spell it phonetically - pronounced Rye ark na mara.

Erin go Bragh may well be an Irish Whiskey but is more generally used as an expression of allegiance to Ireland, meaning Ireland forever.

Thank you all for your inspiration, much appreciated :)

Ok so my very short shortlist so far is:

Radharc Na Mara (Sea View in Irish - Thanks to QB for this one, and Colivet for pointing out the correct pronunciation)

Silvermines Misty View or Silvermines Sea Mist (Mountain/Hill range in Tipperary where she was bred, Misty in ref to her mare and view her Sire)

Kylenahone Sea View (Breeders prefix if they allow me to use it)

Do these sound ok? Need one more to submit to the HSI.

Just chiming in to say I think the names you have so far are just lovely!

Thank you :) Hopefully have attached photos below.....

I'd call her High Tide and then call her 'Tidy' for short (because I have welsh family and they all say 'tidy' as a complement!)

A couple more ideas - you said you needed one more:
banríon na farraige - queen of the sea
dearcadh na farraige - view of the sea

Silvermines bandia uisce (water goddess)

Hello there, i've just come across your post and wonder if you still have your horse? I have just bought her full sister Kylnehone Cailin Killea who is now 11.

I'd be really interested to know if you still have her and how you're getting on together. Thanks

Hi Sunnysmile
I do still have my mare, she is just fab, definitely my horse of a lifetime. She has taken me from being fairly nervous trotting over poles to out competing BSJA & BE. She’s not a kick along and can be quite sharp at times but never does anything with it and she has improved my riding no end. I love her so much and wouldn’t be without her 💖 what’s your new one like? What she done? X

Why not try and get hold of her breeders to see what name they originally gave her??

They didn’t give her one. I have her original passport from the breeders registering her and they left the name blank. She just came with a stable name.
