New Horse

I got one last night

How about you?

I got one two weeks ago this Saturday. 16.1 bay sports horse, not done much for a while but has potential.

Have done a reasonable amount so far but feeling a bit wobbly after a couple of silly silly falls (normally stick like glue!).

I am sure it is just teething problems, him testing me etc....

Have always had horses but this is the first I have gone out chosen and bought - have always just ended up with them before.

What's your new ned like? What do you want to do?

He's a 15.1 4YO Bay Gelding, unknown breeding -says Trotter in his passport. I just want something to ride while my other horse is lame. Hopefully he'll do some baby jumping. I haven't ever sat on him, (he is broken in, done hacking), so no chance to fall off yet

Hope you feel OK after your falls are you riding tonight?

Not tonight - he hasn't had a day off since he arrived and he is having his back checked today (just an MOT no problems I don;t think) so he will need a days rest.

Not sore after the falls they were quite gentle as far as falls go!!!

So far have hacked in company over bridges and had long canters, schooled in fields, taken for a fast canter around XC fields and played in the water jump, done some small SJ's (1st fall - spooked at a filler), had a lesson on the grass (2nd fall - spooked going through a gate and spun round) a dressage test (55.78% - was a bit disappointed), hacked out on his own around the village (looking at everything)....

When I say it like that doesn't seem too bad for 10 days achievement - I suppose I am wobbling about the spooking turning into an issue and him perhaps being a little nappy, seems quite sharp...Would you be worried???

Sounds like you are going to have fun with your new baby... how are you planning to get going with him???

No, I wouldn't be worried about it turning into napping. As long as you stay on top of him you should be OK. If he was going to nap he would have done it by now. How old is he?

I'm going to get on mine, see what he is like and go from there. I hate riding new horses.

He's 11. Low mileage though. Know's his job but his previous owner was a bit scared of him so has been allowed to get away with a few naughty things - spooking being one of them. Am hoping that as we become a team and he learns to trust me it will fade away... will see if I can post a picture.

I just noticed the pics of your new horse - seems sweet...

I know what you mean about riding new horses, you never know quite what you are going to get......
