I have recently brought a new horse and I have a few issues with it, I have contacted the previous owner for advice. He has never experienced these problems before or so he says?
Can anyone help me.....

Have you had her for long? It may just be that she is unsure of her surroundings and as she is new she doesn't know/trust you yet. Did you get the horse vetted, if not a back and teeth check are always places to start. Also previously did it hack in company and now are you tryign to hack alone?

More info needed for us to help! X

how recently did you buy this horse? What environment are you keeping it in (a herd/one other horse....)? How old is it? What way is it 'napping'?

Only had her 2 weeks, she had a five stage vetting and when I tried her I hacked alone and in company and she was good. The napping has got worse and she is rearing now, do you think she is taking the piss!

I have tried to ride her forward but am a little apprehensive as its a new horse? She has probably got away with more than she should have!!! What can I do now......

Could possibly be that she is taking the piss, if all was well with back and teeth. Have you changed tack or id it the same tack she had when she was with her previous owner. How was she when you tried her out? Possibly needing to go out with company, until you get more confident on her but make sure you ride her alone sometimes if you have a school avail so she doesn't become dependant. She is maybe just testing you out and needing a confident hand to let her know who is boss. Are you getting lessons too?

Back and teeth have been checked and i have bought a new saddle. I will maybe get someone to hack out with me? I will have to get some lessons as i think i need to have some positive help!

I take it your new saddle was properly fitted? I'd say, get to know her, hack out with some company, ride a bit on your own too, use firm commands and I'm sure it'll just be new horse/owner nerves on both sides! Good luck!

they always like to test the ground - see where the boundaries are. Be positive - remember how she was when you tried her and good luck.. We bought a horse and when we bought it home it had such a personality change we thought it must have been doped!!! Time and patience was what was needed..

Sounds like she may have lost her confidence cos she's moved home or she's talking the mick! Either way, two weeks is not long to get to know each other. I'd try hacking out with others for a while, have lessons like you said and see how it goes.

Did you have blood taken at the vetting?

I would say perservere, sounds like a confidence issue on her part. She does not know you, she does not really know the area. Give her some time. Try hack out with others making her go both infront and behind. Once you have built up confidence in her and vice versa you will soon learn when she's genuinely being a pig and when you need to take charge and give her reassurance. Do not give up yet, no horse can be perfect but I think you'll have to take the lad here initially and let her know you're not putting up with the behaviour and just ride her through it.

Two weeks is a very short time - you don't know each other yet. However the rearing would concern me tbh.

You haven't said if your saddle was professionaly fitted or not - so it if wasn't then you should get a saddler to look at it. It could perhaps be causing a problem.

How is she in traffic? Were you told she was good?

We always hack new horses in company for a while - just for peace of mind until we all get to know each other a bit better.

Was it a private purchase or through a dealer?

The saddle was fitted by a saddler, I mainly hack out on my own, she was fine at her old yard but spins around now when hacking.
I brought her privately and did alot of trying her out,
Maybe she needs to build more conifdence in me....

Thanks
