I took delivery of my second horse yesterday at 3pm. 2.5yr old chestnut filly who basically decided she didn't want to race and therefore didn't and has come straight from the raceyard to me.

Mucking out this morning and whilst I was in there she got down and rolled - she did the same thing when i caught her in this afternoon (4hrs turnout and she wondered what the hell was going on being out for all that time and came over as soon as she saw us heading toward her!) and as soon as I put her in her box and took off her headcollar, she got down on the floor again.

I'm not remotely unnerved by her doing it, I just find it really odd for a horse who has known you less than a day to go tummy side up whilst you're so close! :D Anybody else find it unsual or is it just me?

She is lovely.

My mare is really aloof and doesn't like people in her box in general, but is also a rolling addict - especially if there are shavings, and would roll with anyone in. Perhaps you've got one too!
 
Aw she has a lovely kind eye, she's gorgeous... I may be slightly biased as I'm the owner of 2 Ginger ex racer girls! :) good luck with her.

Oh really? How strange! I've got my other ex-racehorse and after 2yrs it's something i'd expect him to be comfortable with doing, on his back flashing his tummy and flapping his tail, not a horse i've had a day!

She did get out in the field and was about to go down in the massive muddy puddle at the gate so maybe she's gonna be a roller then!! :D

although I am biased as I love my ginger girls :D

Mine does the same and did so when i first got her.....I just thought it was fab- made me think of her as outgoing and trusting of people....good luck with her :)

Her breeding isn't going to threaten Frankel or Kauto Star!!

She's called Annabella Milbanke (Ginger at home although we toyed with changing her to Bella) so the underlying tale is that she was named so as her sire is Byron (as in Lord Byron the poet) who married a lady called Annabella Milbanke. . . Dam is Sophie'Jo. Can't find a story behind that, sorry! :)

She's quite cheeky & imagine she might be a bit of a cow if she doesn't get her own way! My boy is 4.5yrs old and you don't argue with him, you give him a no nonsense look and tone and he does as he's told. I don't think she'll be quite as easy as that!!!
 
FfionWinnie, she is having the winter off so plenty of time to unwind and chill out and be a baby and i'm praying she'll lose the super-fast racehorse walk fairly soon! I honestly cannot keep up with her!

I'll lead her out inhand down the bridlepaths so she has something to keep her occupied (she windsucks so i'm hoping plenty of stimulation & hay/lick/amusements will keep that at bay) and then hopefully April next year when she's turned 3yrs I'll start to play out with her and potter about in the school and hack out.

I did buy her to project and sell on but she's actually really nice and moves beautifully so i'm thinking she could have a whirl at dressage - trot and collected canter to die for. This is what happened with the one I already have - was bought as a project and 2 yrs later i'm still "fine tuning". . . No chance i'm parting with him!! Have a sneaky feeling my fella will find himself attached to her and not want to sell :D
 
She's lovely!! I had a mare who loved to roll in her stable when new shavings were added! She must appreciate her lovely new bed! That's what I always told myself!!:cool:
 
She is probably to people coming and going and people to her part of the furniture. I thinks it shows that's she's a lovely trusting soul who has had nothing to fear from humans. Gorgeous!
 
Aww, thank you for the lovely comments about her. Especially as I didn't even want her! I was musing about buying another (she's from the same raceyard as my 4yr old) and the yard had her and another filly the most beautiful conker brown colour! Fella, who knows nothing about horses, wanted the ginger one so he bought her and I had no say! :rolleyes:

He'll be very pleased his young lady has been admired :)
