is it just me or are the new ifor's heavier?

the old hb505 double has a gross weight of 2340kg, the new hb506 is 2600kg ?

i had heard they were tryng to go lighter to help more people be able to legally tow...

Am usually a lurker but think you answered your own question..yes if your firgures quoted are correct then they are heavier! Lighter would normally equate to less safe and lower quality trailor.

2600kg minus 2340kg equals 260kg heavier

Ive not checked this out but I think the weight you are referring to is the gross weight including horses, so the new Ifors can carry more weight.

gross weight is the max you can carry..

so the new one can carry more..it doesnt weigh more..infact it is lighter.

Off topic a bit, but having seen both the 506 and 511, I would still go for the old models - 505 and 510. Really not keen on the new ones, feel a bit tacky to me! Also, not too keen on the protruding metal 'pins' that are on the floor to keep the rubber down - brought that up with the dealer, who agreed it wasn't the best design.
As for weight, they are now made from a much lighter (and seemingly more flimsy) plastic, and although gross weight is higher, unladen it weighs less.
I am sticking to the 505/510 though - much better build quality and design imo.

I noticed that. It wasnt my trailer but I had a nosey as it had been left for the day at the yard. There was a big lump under the mats, I couldnt resist seeing what it was as my old 505 had the same and it turned out to be a screw. The lump in the new 511 was attached to the floor!
