Hi, I've ridden in my single flap Devoucoux for 10 years and love it. sadly it doesn't do my horses' backs any favours, and despite having it refitted by them I'm looking for something I like but that gives my TB type 16 hh little horse comfort and freedom that I'm also happy with. Preferably as near to the dev as poss but must be comfortable for me too. I tried the Sue Carson ones this week and liked them, just the knee block was rather large and i felt a bit locked in place. Not sure how comfortable it would be after 5 hours in the plate out hunting!

Also looking at Amerigo and Ideal patriot, but don't know anything about the saddle fit!

Help!

thanks sally k

Have a look at Fusion Saddles - I adore mine! - flat seated, close contact - most importantly Horse V HAPPY!

Love love love my Ideal Springbok single flap. Really nice saddle, not much block and fits beautifully. My horse loves it and being flocked is excellent for adjustability, whilst having the advantage of being single flap

I'd also be interested in the answers to this thread as I'm thinking of buying a Devoucoux but people say their horses have problems with their backs. But its supposed to be a fab saddle. I also tried a Sue Carson and was pretty impressed, but they don't seem to be used by many top riders and the price is much the same as a Devoucoux.

Devoucouxs are gorgeous from a riders perspective which is why pro's use them, they quite often use one saddle on multiple horses, so their comfort and positioning is most important. They do also fit SOME horses very well, but arent always ideal, same as for any saddle, but devoucoux trees are notoriously not great on a majority of horses. Butets are better, and a well respected saddler who deals with another well known british brand fully admit Butet are very nice saddles and better adjusted to a wider range of horses.

Dont like Sue Carsons personally, think they are alot of money for not amazing quality.
