I am finally getting a new set of jumps whoopee and I get to choose the colours that they are painted.

Any suggestions to make them as different and as spooky as possible so that my mare gets used to jumping over anything?

I have 5 pairs of wings a couple of fillers a gate and poles.

Is there a particular colour that horses dont like? Sounds strange but if I can get her jumping these at home then I should be ok when we go out.

Thanks guys

yellow and white. black and white.
eyes painted on the fillers... seriously, these cause no end of trouble! also, psychedelic whirls, weird patterns, zig-zags.
plain white fillers always cause problems too, but a white sheet draped over a filler or pole does the same thing, really.
also, fwiw, one thing i do to get them used to jumping any old thing is to have a session where my helper puts all my rugs, one at a time, over a pole, so the 'fence' is a different colour every time i come to it, and a bit bumpy and weird looking.
hope those suggestions help a bit.

That's a great help - it's a bit hard to decide given the choice, I'd rather someone just say to me you are having them in this colour and that's it!

Decisions decisions!!!!

i always like the pink and purple ones.

yellow is supposed to be the colour that horses see the most clearly. it certainly causes spooks.
solid black and solid white things always cause spooks because nothing in nature (usually) is those colours.
anything that tricks the eye causes problems. i was at an event once where one of the showjumps, sponsored by Stansted Airport, had a filler the same shape as the Airport Terminal, sort of wider at one end than the other, looking as if it was cantilevered out, if that makes sense. it caused no end of trouble... even Advanced horses were stopping at it.

Purple and white or balck and white. HAve the poles painted diagnolly across as to the eyes it looks like it is swirling and many horses stop. Fillers - get some pigs added on they are evil!

Another vote for yellow and B&W - lots of mad patturns help and spooky fillers if possible.

There are some fillers at Milton Keynes that have bunnies looking at the sun on one side and at the moon on the other...they are my nemises!

i agree with samp about the pigs! we have a filler which is a plain white with 2 bright pink pigs on it and otto HATES it with a passion! the silly sod will jump the mr blobby filler (pink blobbys on a purple background) at the local show without batting an eyelid but show him the pigs and he turns into a jibbering wreck! was talking to the jump for joy guy at burghley last saturday and he also said black and white seems to spook them the most
