Hi -

I know this is a very personal thing, but am looking at purchasing new long leather blk boots mainly for competing in, mainly dressage, although suitable for a bit of everything to be fair (inc jumping).

I am looking at budget around £300 max ish really.

I have been a real lover of the leather half chaps and short boots over the last few years, and am currently riding in long socks and jod boots (not comp obviously!!!:p) as I love a soft, close feel with my inside leg. A lot of the boots I have looked at in the past are very stiff and I guess take forever to break in and drop etc (dont like that) and I have had a beautiful very expensive pair of Cavallos in the past that I never got on with (albeit they looked nice - but were useless as I didnt like them on!) and ended up selling them on cheap for a complete and utter loss as I got sick of looking at them!

As I say, mainly dressage, but still suitable for jumping also.

I am reasonably tall in the leg and have an average to narrower calf but still a size 7 ladies foot (fairly narrow ish)and find a lot of boots have a too big an ankle bit which makes me feel like Im wearing wellies. I guess a zipped boot would solve this problem?

There are so many boots on the market... lost!

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm similar to you - I am a size 7 and I have always liked the close feel of gaiters and short boots and have never found a long boot I was that comfortable in (I only wore long boots to compete in). However, I recently bought a pair of Dublin dressage long boots and I find them really close fitting and comfy. Think they were about £150 so they are nice and affordable too for every day use.

Ariat have just brought out some new long boots, they are called Heritage Contour boots I think, they are field boots.
Wychanger have them for £230, I've not seen them in person but I had an email about them yesterday and they looked nice and a few different height/width fittings.
I think I'm a bit like you as I prefer my short boots and chaps and find even my Bromonts a bit bulky!

I absolutely adore my sarm hippiques. I have the field boots which are zip up backs and have elasticated laces on the front and are buttery soft calfskin and fit like a glove. They feel the same as wearing nice chaps not like the cavallos I used to have - so stiff I could barely get my leg on

Broginis might do the job. Definitely got narrow ankles! I didn't think my ankles were huge, but my broginis just don't agree with that any more :P They're comfy though (when they fit...!!)

I love my ariat volant front zipped boots, ok they might not look like competition boots but like you I have thin ankles and all other boots are baggy at the ankles including back zip boots. The minute I tried these on I knew I had to have them! They are calf skin on the inside calf area so nice and close contact.

De niro also do a front / side zip which I haven't tried on yet but am tempted by too

I am in love with the Equitector boots. Tried them at Blair last year and desperately saving for a pair (after I finally sort everything else out!). They are waterproof, steel toed (but you can't feel it!!) and they have a wide range of custom sizes as well as made to measure. I was quoted £250 for dressage cut tall boots - and I've never been able to wear tall boots, as have a long leg but with wide calf, wide, short foot and thick ankle, which I REALLY struggle to find boots to fit!! These were like wearing gloves, I loved them.

Tattini boots - from Selwood Equine. Lovely and soft from the word go. Simple, but contemporary design and ariat-esque footbed! Again, well within your budget!

Mountain horse supreme high riders have a lot of feel and no wearing in

Another for mountain horse, i will replace them when the time comes. I've also got brogini's they are ok, but no where near as nice as the MH Boots, they fitted like a glove from day one and make me feel really secure. They are the SCS 3 ones.

Had Regent boots too, they are similar to brogini to wear.

I also have the mountain horse supreme high riders. Only boots of the shelf to fit my ridiculously long and skinny legs!

Tried every make and they were the only ones.

They don't need breaking in and are sure soft from day one

Hi Equestrian World

I always had some cheap shoes and now I decided that I like to buy a good dressage shoes for competition only. Can anybody advise me which one and where I should buy? I looked at Petrie ANKY but I do not know if they are good and also I do not see the difference between ANKY and Olympics except the leather. COuld you help me as I am really dump within this area? Especially those one who do competition and know what I should really have. Your practical point of view. It would not help me in winning but build my confidence a bit ;)

Many thanks.

I originally bought Konigs to do dressage in managed to get a pair for under £300 brand new :O

However found them much to large around the ankle and stiff. I now have a pair of Rectiligne boots which are great, really nice leather and a bonus I can jumping them. Wouldn't of dreamed jumping in my konigs!

I think they were around £230, feel free to PM me if you want more details about them.

I have just bought a nice pair of 'off the rack' De Niros. They can be pricey when custom, £500+ but these were only £280ish I think and came in various sizes and measurements. I'm a 6 with long thin legs, they fit perfectly but are very very slightly too big at the ankle, nothing welly like though as fit perfectly on legs and foot so don't move. So smart and so comfortable, they're perfect!!
