Sorry to use this as a moaning slot but feeling a bit stressed out!

I've had my new horse for only 2 weeks now and he's settled in quite well (he is so relaxed and a bit dopey) BUT.. have had one problem after another.

First - he came without shoes and ended up loosing a big bit of hoof - cue suppliment and hoof dressing costing an arm and a leg but luckily easily fixable and horse is comfortable.

Second - kicked his stable and upset himself and his neighbour meaning he had to be moved and stable going to be a costly job. Again he's luckily settled well into his new stable.

Third - went out with new horses - he loves his new friends and they play loads. But first day swollen eye and second day he kicked the electric fence! Thank god I put boots on him as the fence ripped straight through the boot and just nicked his leg.

Just feeling a bit sorry for myself today as it seems never ending! He is generally very happy but just seems a bit dippy!

Anyone else have this happen with new horses???? I'm hoping it's the stressful settling in period that will blossom into a great relationship! lol

Thanks for listening everyone!

2 weeks??....Try 5 years! I hope for your sanity that he settles.....but some horses are just clumsy buffoons and dont grow out of it, as i've found out.

I am sooooooo grateful that he hasn't hurt himself (touch wood!).

No news from yard today so fingers and toes are crossed that is was an uneventful day.

Thanks both for your comments
: o )

Mine jumped out of a field and had to have the vet out to stitch his leg.

He daily trashed his bed and cantered up and down and round his box, rearing and bucking

He injured himself at least 3 times doing this.

He refuses (still, 10 months on) to go anywhere alone unless he is in the right frame of mind

However he will go into any SJ ring and jump any fence, but walking out for some in hand grass is just way too scary, bless.

It took me months to persuade him that hacking up the lane, alone, was not going to kill him - we spent hours sat on the lane, stock still, not moving forwards or backwards LOL

It all takes time, wine helps

Oh no, this is what I was worried about! I think my experience with my first horse was a bit of an easy ride! Had hardly any problems with him.

Things can only get better!!!
