I'm mulling over the idea of getting the new model VSD from Wintec as they now do them with point straps and I've heard that Wintec have redesigned the tree so it is flatter?

I know the old Wintecs (I used to have the dressage and the close contact ones) had too rounded a shape panel for Hattie and they rocked (despite her being a TB) but this new VSD, looks flatter but still has wither clearance:

If the tree is indeed flatter than the old models and paired up with the point straps, could be the answer to Hattie's fitting problems. I wouldn't get the Cair but the flocked version.

Does anyone have any experience with the new model Wintecs and if so, what sort of conformation does your horse have?

I'd not put point straps on a Wintecf or Bates tree - that kink in the headplate (http://saddlefitter.blogspot.com/2011/09/changeable-gullets-details.html) will place too much pressure on the scapula. If it had a more open head then yes, great, I use point straps nearly all the time fitting natives and cobs. I would also say that the rails of the tree are probably still too upright for many wide flat horses.

If a saddle fits correctly it does NOT ever need a point strap!!

This is especially relevant for wider horses, if the saddler needs to use a point strap, then your saddle does not fit!!!

The new ones have the point straps already built in though so would that make a difference? I always have to have point straps put on my saddles but if they are already built in, it would save me a trip to the saddler.

The saddle would be for my TB who has a good topline BUT has high withers. A lot of "TB" high wither saddles rock on my mare as she doesn't have a dippy back like some TB's have. Thorowgood/K&M saddles don't fit her at all.

My TB has a VERY forward girth groove and is built a little croup high and I have tried literally hundreds of saddles on her. The girth straps on all saddle are set too far back for her causing her saddle to slide forward. My Barnsy is ok as the girth straps are set closer to the tree points than most others I have tried but it's still moves forward a bit.
