Hi ladies,

Hope I'm posting in the right place!

My little man is 8 weeks on Friday and after having a c-section I'm hoping to get back to the yard any time now.

My horse is on DIY. How do you manage with a newborn up the yard?

Do you put your little one in a carrier and get on with everything? Would mucking out be ok for his little lungs? Not really sure how I'm going to do things with him in toe! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Xx

I just used to leave her in my car which was parked outside the stable. She used to sleep most of the time. Just timed it in between feeds usually but if not possible I used to just give her a bottle whilst there.

Congratulations!
I used to leave my daughter in the car when she was tiny. If she was awake then id park the pushchair somewhere safe, tbh by the time i'd got us both up and put most of the horses on the yard were out anyway!
We had a travel cot at work for my boss's baby and he sat happily in that for ages (throwing toys out!) when he was a bit bigger.
I'd personally not muck out with a baby in the stable due to dust and yuck but that's just me!

When I just had one baby, I would put her in a sling or backpack and just get on with everything. Baby was v happy but as my horse was living out, no mucking out involved! Baby 2 arrived a year later and by then no 1 was fiddling so things were a bit trickier but basically worked round either nap times or just planned for a more relaxed (and longer) time at the yard. When I wanted to ride, OH was in charge of babies!! It can be done, especially once you find a routine that works for you. Best of luck getting started again.

When my two where small it was horse outside and baby in the stable and vice versa. Worked well. To empty the wheelbarrow I left the baby in the pram, shut in the stable. My horse got quickly used to me pushing the buggy and leading her out to the field and knew if I was pushing the buggy there was zero messing.
As time has gone on I've used back carriers, trikes and the like around her.
My daughter, 8, is v helpful and aware while my two year old son is more interested in playing in the water and hay. If there are other horses about (not in their stables) then he's strapped in the buggy or holding my hand.

It's all good fun just leave more time to do everything.

Easier when they are buggy bound bit more tricky when they want to 'get out' haha
