I am putting a bid in for ragwort pulling to be declared an Olympic sport. I have never known a year like it. No need for gym membership here. I swear it is like grey hairs, for every one you pull two new pieces spring up. Not helped by the fact our hay still hasn’t been cut because of wet weather.

Sorry - I have already declared Willow Herb pulling for that!! My borders were invisible with it all earlier in the Summer (?) and I thought I had been bequeathed the National Collection. Many lovely plants lost to the winter wet but the Willow Herb .........................

Well if chess is a sport .....

So what are the rules?

A standard patch of ragwort of 10m x 10m containing 100 plants of flowering maturity.

Fastest time to clear the patch? With or without a fork?

Marks for style? Marks subtracted for landing on your aars as one comes up quicker than expected?

Accuracy of throwing plant from a distance of 5m into a wheelbarrow?
.

I totally feel your pain (literally) it's never been as bad as this year if my Ibuprofen consumption is anything to go by.

I can count on one hand how much I usually dig up a year, having got on top of it early on when I moved here. I’ve dug up more in the last two weeks than the last few years.

It pops up overnight!

Exactly, have had virtually none for the last three years having been rigorous with management but this year is feeling like a battle.

Looks like I’d better do another check of my field tomorrow! (I’m on livery and the yard do do it but I check too). I’m not up to competitive standard though, too slow! At my last yard though I did buy a blow torch for the very small ones, so maybe I could enter the extreme sports version?? 🔥

A weight/strength trial could be heaving the full wheelbarrow up a steep track full of stones & ruts. That could be timed. Having done that last weekend I know I would be too slow for a medal, especially as I had to have a sit-down when I got to the top :)

Bonus points for pulling the little rosettes hiding in the grass.
