Hi - can anyone help?
Horse in question had an abscess back in September which took an age to shift - x-rays and antibiotics eventually cleared it. Was fairly high up and just not draining properly but no obvious cause for the abscess. Given the all clear by the vet following more x-rays and been abscess free over 12 weeks.
BUT horse comes out of its stable with an abscess in the same foot on Saturday.
Am poulticing and farrier has been out to dig out and drain the abscess but there isn't much gunk in there. Horse still pretty lame but weight bearing on it.
So - how likely is it that the new abscess is related to the first? It's been 3 months between the two and the horse has been in full work. Also nothing showed up to cause concern on the x-rays and the horse was sound 12 hours before the abscess blew up...
Any tips for helping prevent them in the future?
