His diet is speedibeet, linseed, salt and forageplus winter hoof health balancer. Why do you ask? He is also on 7 hours of restricted grazing. I should have also mentioned he has ems and I also suspect he might have ulcers. We have the ems under control and will now be investigating if he has ulcers.
 
Not much wrong with the diet then. My first thought when seeing those feet was that the heels look a little too high, preventing the frog from having enough contact with the ground to stimulate growth. That could be a factor in the heels still being so contracted.

So would this be due to trim or not enough roadwork or anything else? Would greatly receive any advice as barefoot is new to me. I'm currently using my farrier who previously shod him but he's not for or against barefoot just not very full of information

Is there anything else I should be doing? He is due a trim next week.

The recent photos are the link above. The previous photos are in my albums under my username on here if that makes sense? Do you think there has been any improvement?
 
I would say there has been some improvement in the heels, they are less under-run.

The best hoof builder is exercise, exercise and more exercise. Roadwork is excellent for trimming back anything that shouldn't be there.
 
The frogs seem very small (and I guess not touching the floor) is the horse landing heel first? It would make me think that he isn't using his feet correctly which is why the frogs are still so small and the heels contracted. I think most would expect to see more improvement over 6 months than what you can see in these pics.

For me something needs changing but am not sure what, how much work is horse in? sound?

As a general rule, unless there is a good reason why they can't or shouldn't be, you would normally want the frogs in contact with the ground when stood on a hard flat surface. Are they??
