In a recent telephone poll run by a local radio station in Berkshire, callers were asked whether they approved of the Hunting Act or not.

Immediately the well-oiled machine that is the Countryside Alliance went into action: hundreds of thousands of emails were despatched asking pros to vote on the premium-rate (£1 per second) line, leaflets were distributed at hunts, Simon Hart even had the phone number written across his buttocks in lipstick in a publicity stunt. It was no surprise, therefore, that the result was an overwhelming victory for pros:

Approve: 2 votes
Disapprove: 12,675,435 votes

PS. The next day's poll was:

"Is Bruce Forsythe too old to present Strictly Come Dancing?"

Do you really mean 12 million? The CA must be very efficient if they can get 17% of the UK population to vote in a local radio poll!
