We've had a lovely quiet few weeks since PC Area and caught up on lots of jobs, like painting the stables, sorting out rugs, cleaning the lorry...fun stuff like that. Saffy has been really bitten by some nasty new UFO type flies or cleggs so we're keeping her quiet and just turning out first thing in the morning and hacking at night before the champs.
So, some time on our hands and a few empty stables and.. much to my surprise - or so I told OH - two new irish horses have appeared for A to produce. Now, I wonder how that happened..?
Bella is an incredibly sweet, quiet 15.2hh 7yo bay mare who has been ridden by an international SJer's young daughter in Ireland. She has settled straight in so quietly that even a mouse would be louder! We took her to her first BS Intro show yesterday and she won her class - big pats and polos
Her travel companion was Parker, a 16.1ish 7yo gelding who has only been broken about 10-12 weeks (his elderly breeder died and the estate had to be sorted out). He's by Parco (who I discovered this week was 4th Ind SJ at the Athens Olympics
) out of a Porsch mare and we think is a very special boy. Before he came to us on Wednesday he had never worked in an outline and yet having been ridden twice for half an hour in a light contact this is him:
We took him along to the show yesterday and he was so willing and genuine that we were absolutely delighted. He drifts a little still through the shoulder and his outline could be steadier into the canter transition but he's so naturally uphill and balanced he's a pleasure to ride and watch.
He also jumped yesterday and caused the gallery to gasp as he has just a little bit of scope:
He had the last fence down but for only his second or third ever course away from home we were so pleased with his jump and most importantly his helpful, genuine attitude. We've decided to take him to Blair as he will benefit from the experience and we'll just do whatever he's comfortable doing. He'll be an exciting prospect to produce I think, and he had to have his cuddle outside the ring which I think he secretly enjoyed:
Bella is going this week with A for his mock B test riding and then we're off to the champs on Thursday to give Saffy Friday off before she jumps the open individual on Sat and the open teams on Sunday. Wish us luck for our adventures!
