So today we went to get my daughter's new pony. We've had a pony on loan for the winter who has been fab but has had to go back, so today we welcomed this little man into our family. He's a sec B from the Hilin stud, rising 16. He's lovely and gentle and personable.

He came with lots of rugs and most of them tend to slide back. He has the beginnings of rubs on his shoulders and his mane is getting rubbed too.

Anyone got any idea which brands suit ponies with smaller shoulders. I'm used to connies with big shoulders!!!

Not sure if this pic works!!! He's super pretty.

He is gorgeous! Have a look at Maxima turnout rugs, they have very adjustable front fastenings that make it easy to get a good fit on this type of pony.

My baby A’s are fitting well into masta and weatherbeeta, and Robinson’s own Cosy pony, to my disgust as my big lad is in PE and I was so looking forward to buying many matchy PE rugs. PE is far too deep for them, they have one each for show days when the surcingles won’t be used but none for home.
Aside from that, if you put a small dart into the shoulders/neck, if the length is OK, it’ll stop the slipping back that you have. Just a few stitches against the edging, but make sure that if you’re doing TO rugs that you go downwards with the fabric so as not to create a puddle in the wet!
Good luck with him, he does look cute x

Cute little pony congrats loads of fun with him.

my livery section b finds this too , Bossy Bibs are great and my mare's mane is growing back now after being rubbed https://www.bossysbibs.com/collecti...aneguards-prevention-cure-for-horse-mane-loss.
Rugs = shires don't rub him as saxon don't seem to

He’s very cute. My similar pony has mostly Weatherbeeta rugs and one John Whitaker. The only rug I’ve found that was truly awful was Swish. It seemed to be a horse sized rug merely cut down to the right length and came well below the knees. I’ve also used Amigo which fitted well.

Look on the Harry Hall site at the Masta ones you can fit liners too. I bought one for our little welsh recently because it was one of the few I could find in 100g weight and 1200d outer.
It's pretty good!

If the pony is very narrow, then Horseware rugs are good, especially the 'wug' or half neck design. I did have a Horseware Pony Rhino and it was super, but it was on the small side compared to the same rug and size in the non-pony version.

If you find a rug that doesn't slip back, but he is still getting rubbed, then a Bossy's Bib shoulder guard should help.

I have two Welsh section A ponies. The slighter built ones wears a Horseware Rhino wug and the stocky, fat one wears a Shires Tempest Lite. (That is the old style Shires, I'm not so keen on the new fastenings).

I have an anglo arab x section B - very narrow in the shoulders and he has amigo mio, weatherbeeta, maxima and just lately a masta (spoilt pony with a mix of standard neck and full neck rugs!) All of these seem to fit well and not rub the shoulder/slide back etc.

Thank you. My Connie is in PE they fit her really well. I need to get her a new lightweight actually.

He came with loads of rugs but I don't like the fit of most of them. The shires turnout is the best so he is in that ATM. Otherwise I think I could put a dart in his stable rugs. He has white hairs on his withers I would think more from rugs than anything to do with his saddle.

Totally in love with him though he is very cute!!

I like the look of the weatherbeater. Also a sec B on the yard has a lovely Masta rug I like too.

I love Sec Bs - most sane and mannerly of all the Welshies!

He seems very sensible. He has been slightly 'bargy' at his stable door (really not much at all) but I'm not sure if that's due to being in an outdoor stable with a view, rather than at the end of a long narrow corridor in a barn, with little view. Otherwise I can't fault him

Although DD fell off today, I went to swipe a bit of shavings off his side just as they were walking away from me and misjudged and caught him quite hard (not hard at all but like a good pat) and made him jump, just by totally taking him by surprise I think. Poor DD was so cold and sitting so stiffly she fell straight off the side. Jumped straight back on with little fuss. At least she's not worried about her first fall from him though.
