and I am very, very excited.

He gets delivered at 10am tomorrow and I am a bit  about what I should do with him on his first day, apart from give him a good grooming and some treats...

* Put him in his box with some hay to have a look around and acclimatise OR
* Turn him out on his own but where he can see the other horses or with a gentle companion?

He is a pony club pony, so he is fairly used to going to new places (camp, a friend's house for the night etc) and he is making a journey of just over an hour to get to my yard.

:D how exiting, i have a pony coming on tuesday! but hes a baby. mine is going to stay in the stable for an hour or so while we sort the trailer out ect. then he will go out for a few hours. then ill bring him back in and play. i cant wait!!!

My new one is coming on Tuesday too. Wow lots of new HHO horses this month. I would stick with whatever routine he has come from. If he is used to being out for the day or 1/2 a day then stick with that.

Good luck and I look forawrd to pictures

Does your yard not have a policy?

Most yards around here have a policy that all new horses have to be kept in 48hrs to be wormed and kept an eye on that they don't have any illnesses.

Then after the 48hrs most good yards then put the horse out in a paddock by themselves so they can meet their new friends over the fence. Once that has all settled (no squealing), usually at least 3 days then they get put in all together.

If your yard is hapy for him to go out before being wormed, and that is his normal routine, i would put him out and let him settle but on his own where he can see others. Then continue the routine but changing gradually if you need to for your benefit. Good luck im sure he will be fine though if he is used to it!

^^ exactly this for my new lad arriving tomorrow!

When i brought my horse home it was an autumn evening so i kept him in stable overnight and for first couple days he was in a field next to the others before joining the herd.

When i moved yards with him it was a Sat morning, i put him in new stable for a couple hours went back just after lunch to see how he was settling, he was fine so i put him in the "isolation paddock" for the rest of the afternoon and then again for a couple days until he could be put into the field with the others.

I didnt worry too much about grooming or spending much time with him as he was more interested in everything else going on!
