Ok, so here she is (arrived today).. my new 6yo 14.2hh welsh cob X (arab possibly?)

Advice please on her condition score?

Opinions on her conformation? (I can take the good with the bad, i think all opinions are interesting)

Shes having a full MOT- dentist/chiropractor/farrier and saddler are all out next week.

What do you think i should be feeding her, if anything?

She looks a bit underweight to me, and as if she needs quite a bit of muscle built up. Im probably totally wrong though, I'm awful at this! Not sure about conformation.

Think she looks quite poor, and is lacking muscle on neck and bum, Did the previous owners worm her? she looks quite a nice sort when she fills out

First of all, congratulations she is lovely.

To me she looks a little on the skinny side, feed her up slowly to avoid colic and her having too much energy, especially whilst you two are both getting used to each other.

Good luck and keep us posted of how you get on

At the moment she looks lean but not a bad shape overall, some steady work and feeding will sort that out - but it is muscle and topline you want, not fat.

Looks a little pigeon toed but a decent farrier might help there, and one the scale of things that could be wrong that is way down the list

She is lovely!

IMO she does look quite lean and basically lacking topline/muscle. I would feed her a high fibre diet with ad lib hay/haylage, gradually with this and work she will fill out considerably, she is very pretty, good luck wither her.

She's a pretty girl! But looks very lean on her bum, and she also looks tucked up, I agree with Zigzag that she may need worming, unless she had a long stressful journey? she's got a nice bit of bone so she's got it all there!!

Have fun with her, she definitely looks crossed with and arab!

Overall condition not that bad but then again for a 6yo i wounldn't say its good! I use Baileys No4 & swear by it, grazing on that lush grass i see will do her wonders. Muscle tone isn't good neither but will build up gradually with exercise! Hope all goes well.

No she wasnt wormed correctly before, ive done it now though so they can work there way through her system.

Shadow monkey- yes shes 6yo (Just)

I think she most def needs some more weight on her, she was fed ever so little before and was so hungry when she arrived.
Not a long journey- but im sure it was stressful for her, bless her :-)

I would say a bit more weight needed. She looks like she has potential though and a very kind and trusting looking face. I would agree with you about sec d in her.
Very pretty ponio.......I may have to steal her.

Congratulations, she is lovely.

I think she will look even better when she has a bit more weight and starts getting worked properly. I would give her some Baileys No.1 for weight gain as I have found it fantastic and perhaps some alfa oil and an all round supplement, maybe add a little fibre beet in aswell. I am sure she will put weight on anyway with the spring grass so dont feed her up too much

Certainly needs some weight, and correct work to build the feed you give into muscle, lacking topline!muscle tone on bum lacking but that will come with feed and work, lovely looking po though!!Shouldnt be too much hard work for you now the spring grass on the way

Pleased to see you have wormed her well!!

I will second Baileys No. 4 conditioning cubes, they are great for weight gain and overall condition - but without being heating.

If you ring the Baileys feed line they will advise on how much to feed. But I'd have thought half a scoop AM & PM with some Alfa A or Alfa A Oil and a balancer or Vitamin & Mineral supplement.

Dito what all the others have said re weight but she has a lovely head and kind eye and nice big ears!! Put some pics on again when she has gained a bit of weight and top line it will be really interesting to see how she develops! Don't let her get fat though especially with spring grass coming through! Get a weigh tape so you can monitor her progress!! She is lovely!!

she has a gorgeous face, she is going to be lovely when you have her in good condition. at the moment she is poor and lacks muscle.

steady work, and steady feeding up is what she needs. and also worming properly but as you say you already have this sorted.

i would be inclined to bulk out her feed with fibre a good chaff (personally im a fan of the dengie products) - depending on how much of a good doer she is and her energy requirements, one of the dengie products accompanied by possibly baileys top line cubes of similar slowly introduced - very slowly if she hasnt been fed a great deal in her previous home( - i started my 13hands mare on just a hand ful of cubes per feed but she was a good doer) but it depends on her temperament really.

Ad lib hay or haylege. perhaps some readi grass for a while if you grass quality is lacking. but introducing it all slowly (- apart from the adlib hay) as she is quite poor and flooding her system with lots of food could cause problems. i would also get her on a good vitamins supplement, on second thoughts perhaps to 'pick her up' a little i would consider putting her on naf pink powder for a while. i put my mare on it after she looked a bit rough after being in with mud fever and she looked marvellous after only 2-3 weeks.

starting from scratch like this can be very rewarding - keep lots of photos of your progress, every few weeks stand her up in the same way / same place and take a few pictures at the same angle, weigh tape her and make a little record. then you can see your progress and will feel really satisfied when she starts looking fabulous. Also making a fitness programme to work to can really help to. starting off gently with walking, then trotting, hill work, road work, then canter, etc etc, lungeing, long lining etc. You will probably find that a few months down the line she looks like a different pony!!

Good luck she looks lovely hope you have lots of fun!

Ditto everyone else, but I would also advise caution, spring is on its way and you dont want to go the other way, I would be inlclined to just give her fibre and a good vit & min supplement.

What a beauty, good luck

Gorgeous little thing.

She is a little lean - but I bet she'll pile it on come spring and summer - so go steady with feeding her up.

Personally if she were mine she would be on a high firbre diet of something like Hi Fibre Cubes, Alfa and good quality hay rather than haylage if possible.

Good luck - she's a cracker.

Firstly she is lovely. What an honest face. Good luck and have fun! Agree she is a little lean but a buffer before the spring is a good thing for these native crosses!! I would get her on a good quality high fibre diet as already suggested but would also suggest a balancer pellet. Lo-cal or such like so you are sure that she is getting all the mins, vits and trace elements she needs plus good quality protein, as she looks like she needs some protein to help build up muscle correctly when you start working her. Just watch her like a hawk when grass comes through as both cons and arabs are good doers!!

She looks lovely, weight wise I think that she is only a little underweight which should be sorted out by the spring grass, I would also put her on a balancer and ad-lib forage if possible. The main thing is that she really needs to be worked correctly, and if possible, up hills to build up her top-line. Good luck, it looks like you have a really nice pony/horse there.
