Hi everyone!!

Before I begin, please note that this is NOT an advertisment as the product in question does not exist yet, I'm just trying to get some feedback, market research if you will :)

My dad works in sustainable lighting (energy efficient LED lighting mostly) and after spending ages wiring up my stable so I can connect my lightbulbs to my generator, he wondered if there was an easier way to do it, especially for ladies who may not have the help of an electrician.

He's come up with the idea of an 'install it yourself' solar powered stable or field shelter light. It would provide enough working light for multiples of 16sqaure foot (your average 12x12 stable). It would run on pure solar energy and run for approximatley six hours, no need for electricity or charging.

It would be very simple to install (so that you could install it yourself) it would be compact and not 'bulky'.

What are peoples thoughts on this type of product? Would it be of interest to those of you who like me don't have electricity at the yard and struggle when bringing in and bedding down in the winter months? Or perhaps those who only have field shelters but would like some form of lighting in case of night time emergencies?

Any feedback appreciated, especially if you can think of any features the light should have or things it should conform to.

The general idea is to have something that alleviates the need for torches (trying to change a rug when a torch is your only source of light is a nightmare!!) And also alleviates the need for bulky generators that can be hard to start on your own and costly to run in terms of petrol. This lighting system would be a flick of a switch kind of set up.

:) thanks everyone!

I understand there's probably many similar/same products on the market, we were hoping to produce/tailor this to meet equestrian needs hence the desire for some feedback :)

I shall however pop to homebase with dad and see what kind of specs these ones have so thank you nikicb! X

I think it's a good idea, I actually had a solar powered energiser for my fencing before it got nicked! How about you do me a deal..I buy one of your solar lighting systems if you make me a solar energiser for free? ;)

The progress in LED lighting is quite amazing over recent years, and now the smallest amount of power can generate a substantial amount of light. I haven't looked at the products available but would be interested in what is on offer, especially as we recently had a break-in at the yard and they targeted the generator even though it was in a high security housing.

I have a solar led light in one of my stables and its excellent when it works but it doesnt work for more than about five minutes at a time. you also have to stand on tiptoes to flick the switch on it

I would like one that looked a bit more permenant and has just a normal switch on the wall and one that lasts 6 hours would be great, I would buy one like a shot

Of course there are 12v kits that do a good job so I think in reality you would be competing against those rather than other solar lights

Already installed in my mobile field shelter - good idea but I just use the solar security light with the light inside the shelter, I got it off Amazon dead cheap and it works brilliantly!

Saved me waiting for years and years for my dad to run a cable across from stable to shelter a (massive distance of about 12ft!) so I could have light!

Only thing I would change is the colour of the light as its a whitey/blue light but least I can see to change rugs and muck out
