Ok guys some advice please.
New lab came home yesterday 8weeks nearly (on phone so can't post pics) he is in a crate at night. Cried for 45mins last night then settled- i was brave! He cried again at 4 am i didn't get up as don't want to give him attention when crying.
BUT this morning he had done a poo in his cage and possibly a wee or knocked his bowl over.
So should i go down when he cries early morning but just put him out don't speak. Or leave him with paper down for him to use like last night?

When Harley was small he went out late last thing before bed. For 1st week he woke up twice a night crying. I picked him up, took him straight out then put him straight back in crate without talking to him or making a fuss. He'd cry a bit then be ok. 2nd week he only woke once then slept straight through. I never put any paper etc in his crate and thankfully he never had an accident :)

I have a 12 week old pup at the min. His routine is dinner latest at 5. Will go out for last pee and poo at 10. First week he'd wake up about 3ish, he'd go straight out and then straight back in his cage. Wake up at 7 and he goes straight out, generally will pee straight away and 2 poos. He's now sleeping from 10 until 7.30 and not waking through night. I try and keep him entertained and awake as late as poss so he's tired to go to bed

Yes, at this early stage def release him, he was probably telling you he needed out! as suggested no fuss, just place him out, "wee wees" and straight back to bed so that he relates this as a toilet release and not an attention thing, he should be able to hold for longer and longer so the times should get later and later.

Totally agree with Cayla, but have to say that nearly 8 weeks is very young for a puppy to be in its new home, don't expect miracles just be patient and calm, he will more than likely be really scared being away from his mum and litter mates. I never let my puppies go before 12 weeks, by this time they have started to become confident and independent of their litter mates and it makes life so much easier for the new family. ( I have been breeding borzoi for 23 years and it has never failed)

Good luck and congratulations on your new family member

Yeah they are very big pups! They stopped having milk at 3weeks and the mum basically abandoned them then. Not expecting miracles but want to do right thing we have never crated before and have always had pups at 8weeks but they have been with other dogs at night so this first one on his own. May put cat in room with him if he doesn't settle on his own! Thanks for your help. Will post pics later or tomorrow when laptop decides to work!

The cat may actually disturb him and make him whinge more, are you covering the crate and leaving the radio on low and giving him a teddy bear sibling? (near enough equal to his own size) minus eyes and nose (to prevent them being chewed off):D teddy bear sibling provide company, they actually snuggle right in to them:)
Also maybe get a bowl attachment for the side of the crate so you can clip water bowl on and get it up off the crate floor.
I have a crate guide if you think it would help I am happy to share, although im sure you have the gist of it:)

When I brought my pup home he was 11 weeks, but he still asked to go out early am, so as the others ahve said he got put out put no attention!! He now sleeps right through and if he has a desperate need to go toilet he will bark which means mummy toilet now!!!

Thanks guys. Yes cayla he has a sibling, a hotwater bottle, crate covered. No radio as don't have one but may move alarm clock down tonight and put radio on that although would prefer if he didn't need it as don't want that forever!! He has actually taken himself off today to sleep in there so he is obv happier. Also OH put him in twice today when he nipped out for ten mins and no crying when he left him
