Roughly how much am I going to pay for vaccinations and micro chipping my new pup. I know it will depend on the vet practice, just interested to know approx costs, as I've got to wait until Tues after Bank Holiday to ring and find out, and I'm the impatient sort.:)

A set of 2 jabs for us and a microchip plus vet examination was £80ish the jabs were £40, chip was £10 and the vet exam was £26 I think......

Our vet did a £50 offer that included both jabs plus an extra lepto (I think) at 16 weeks plus microchip. Good value we thought.

If its a pedigree pup it should be already chipped in order to register with the kennel club.

Vets do vary a lot with vaccination costs.... and as they are not offically allowed to advertise prices it is a matter of local research I'm afraid.
Personally I would be looking for them to have the newest version of the lepto vaccine (l4 more strains involved so better protection) and checking to see what the cost of kennel cough(if you will need kennels in the coming year its a requirement) along with the core vaccines.
another thing to look into is a vaccine for life scheme or health scheme's...more and more practices are beginning to run these and they tend to be very good value..as they are a marketing tool in order to win and keep clients.

Also ask about their out of hours cover...if your looking for a practice with 24 cover you need to check you aren't going to a satellite clinic that is not manned out of hours.

We charge £50 for first and second vacc, microchip, a flea spot-on, worming tablet and 4 weeks Petplan insurance.

Didn't think there was any requirement to chip puppies before KC registration and we can advertise prices!

Unless things have changed very recently pups do not have to be microchipped to be KC reg, though I think Assured Breeders do have to either chip or tattoo before selling (not before registering). A lot of breeders register when the pups are just a couple of weeks old so would be too young to chip.

Wow some of those prices are high, ours are £30.50 jabs, chips are £15 but you can get the free with dog trust go onto there website then search your area. it will tell you any free events or which vets offer the free chip.

Interesting prices. Ours was chipped and had first vaccinations when we collected her at 12 weeks. The second jab cost about £15 I think.

Must be an Irish kennel club registration only demand.Pups are all microchipped and therefore traceable via their number if pedigrees. Its very handy for ruling out dodgy situations where "the papers are in the post". no chip, no papers.
Sorry about the misinformation..I just assumed the uk one would be the same...finally something we have got right before ye then! :P

Vets over here are not ment to advertise prices outside of their own premises/vehicles either.

Amazing the differences between here and ye sometimes.

it really varies

my vets do the new L4 vaccine so it is three jabs in total, at £47, id chip is free, kennel cough vacc is £17.50 and all vaccines include a free health check and no consultation charge-in fact I have never heard of any vet charging for consultation or health check when a vaccine is being done.

also many vets do a healthy pet club, again I can only give the price my vets charge, it is £9.99 per month for a puppy and it includes;
all vaccines (L4 included) for the year including KC and health check
id chip
all worming for a year
all flea treatment for a year
a free health check by a nurse 6 months after joining
20% of neutering
if you feed royal canine your each 6th bag of food you purchase is free
10% of EVERYTHING else in the practice

4 weeks free puppy insurance is offered at most practices and is free of charge because petplan provide it

where are you as people mau be able to give a better price as it is fairly area dependent.

I was going to say it might be an Irish KC thing Aru. I wonder how that all works with the timing, presume pups need to be quite big, say 7 weeks, before chipping, which would only give a week to get registrations off and back before pups go to new homes at 8 weeks. The UK Kennel Club would never cope with that! :)

Most pups Ive chipped have been 6 weeks.Often done at the same time as the first parvo injection.Pups have to be microchipped and siged off on the IKC record sheets by a vet but breeders can chose to supply their own chips.Never considered the time implications tbh but I haven't heard of it been a problem.

All of the registered pedigree pups Ive meet at 8 weeks have been chipped. We check as routine and tend to have a chat about making sure they are registered to the new owners details. It can be a bit awkward in the cases where they have been duped into buying a "registered" pup and theres no chip..they are usually the ones with papers to come in the post...
Must ask one of our breeders exactly long it takes some day.

Do you get many tattooed pups over there. Until my most recent litter in 2012 I always tattooed pups rather than chipped, really only had the latest lot chipped as one was going abroad so had to be. I like the fact that with tattooing the pups can always be linked back to the breeder, I understand there is this option with chipping but its not so easy. Unless it has changed in the last couple of years I don't think we have first parvo at 6 weeks over here any more, although I remember this was done in the early days of the parvo vaccine. It's interesting to hear of the differences with you, but of course it is only the responsible breeders who do it right and there are probably far more pups produced by those who are just out to make money.

Ive yet to see a pup with a tattoo.
The only dogs Ive seen with them have been the older racing greyhounds while in collage and we have only a few people who breed greys here, thankfully.I say thankfully as had half a dozen greys in lately with parvo, and this was from one of our best greyhound breeders(i say best as he rehomes his exracers and treats his sick animals).but they all chip the pups they plan to register now rather than tattoo.

Parvo's still fairly rampant here.We strongly encourage early vaccination in a kennel situation as we don't titre test bitches and because it is still such as common issue.
To be honest I am very much on the pushing vaccination in general. We have quite low uptake around here so there is no herd immunity really. We see parvo every month or two. Plus our success rate for parvo even with admission for iv fluids and drugs is still between 50 to 70% death rates. Seen distemper last month as well..thats currently at 100 percent death rate.

I can also say I dont work in a particularly bad area either! But theres a lot of ignorance and irresponsibility when it comes to animals.

Under our new welfare laws all pups produced in kennels, with 6 or more bitches over 6 months, have be microchipped by 12 weeks. It was brought in in order to control the puppyfarmers breeding but Ive not seen or heard of it being enforced yet.
There is a push on to soon have it mandatory to have all dogs chipped like in northern Ireland.....but unless its mandatory to register and keep details up to date I think its going to be pointless. The responsible owners will do it and hopefully it will help reunite some of the strays but the rest will ignore the law as usual or fail to update or claim I sold that dog weeks ago to a man down the pub etc
