New puppy, advise needed.

Picked new Vizsla bitch up on sat afternoon. She is 10 weeks old.
She is abit car sick, but im sure that will pass once she gets used too being in there.

Although its being left alone at night i need advice on.
The first night (Sat) we locked her in her cage in the kitchen and went to bed. She howled and barked for an hour or so and then was quiet till the morning.
Last night (second night) we did the same, she barked for well over 2 hours. (12.30pm by this time) and i went down in the end before the neighbours went ape sh*t.

She was shaking like a leaf.
I know going down wasnt the best thing, but we are semi detatched, with thin walls.

I tried to leave her in the cage and sit next too her, but she still barked for nearly and hour.
So i gave in in the end and we both went to sleep on the sofa. She never moved all night untill the OH got up at 6.30am.

What do i do? We have a lovely safe and fairly warm summer house up the garden, do we put cage in there and leave her to bark too her hearts content??

Sorry its long, she off the vets later for her 1st jab so will aske them too.

We had the same problem with our Labrador, we lived in rented accomodation and they had kids next door so we had to keep her quiet. The only way we were able to do this was to have teh cage in the bedroom - yes very bad but no other option, we tried leaving her on the landing with our door open etc. As she was in her cage she was not actually taking over and we made no fuss. We also used to have the cage in the car, I had one at work and we moved her one at home upstairs at night and downstairs in the day/evening. Soon she got used to it and would go in there on her own.

Sorry not a helpful solution for you but it was the only way we managed to get a good nights sleep and still friendly neigbours!!

Do you have another dog?

She is lonely - so you can try a hot water bottle and clock trick so they have something akin to the mothers heartbeat to listen to.

Either than or if you put the cage in your bedroom it should stop the howling, but is not ideal.
 
Thanks for the advise. Next door have a young baby too so they must be cursing us.

Where does your lab sleep now? Just worried that once she comes upstairs shes stay there, that was one thing me and my OH agreed wouldnt happen. Looks like it might tho.

Her cage is next to a radiator on low, but will try hot water bottle and clock. Do you think she would settle better given the run of the kitchen?

Dont know if the cage in the bedroom with work as she still barked last night when i sat next to it? Hmm, will try all these things, just going too try and stay awake in work today!!

Please don't put her in the summer house.

Let her sleep in your room, in her cage until she gets used to the whole 'on her own' idea.

And just a thought - if at 12.30 she was still barking after 2 hours could she have needed a pee? It's quite a long time for her to go unitl 6/7 in the morning on her own or without a little piddle........
 
No i think she's be coming upstairs tonight.

Sorry dont think i made much sense. We went too bed at 10.30pm ish and she barked till 12.30pm ish when i gave up and went down too her. She then lay ontop of me all night till 6/7am and never moved or wanted to go for a wee. Every time she switch position i was awake ready to take her outside, but no she just went back too sleep. Sorry for the confusion.
