Long story short.
Two years ago we had to PTS our wonderful GS when her hips went. We have a yorkie who is now 15 years old. She is partially sighted with cataracts and deaf, only responding to vibrations.
After much heart searching and research on the "right" breed, we decided to get a new puppy now in the hope that it would give our yorkie a new lease of life and the fact that over the last two years we have missed having two dogs.
So we found the puppy, who is gorgous, intelligent and perfect with our elderly yorkie.
24 hours after we get her home she developes a cough that makes her vomit clear phelm.
I suspect it is Kennel cough but hope it's not and make an emergency call to our vet.
Yep, it is Kennel cough but she hopes we have got her treated early to make it a mild attack.
£150 lighter in the pocket!
We are totally in love with our new puppy and will not be returning her but should we inform her previous owner/breeder?

Assuming it's the same puppy you posted about in the other thread...

I have just bought a 9 week old Bischon x.
The owner - I won't say breeder because this was her dog,s first and aparently only litter,
said puppy has been fed on bakers complete with a tablespoon of tinned food at night.

The puppy farm alarms are blaring. :(

Indeed, sounds like a back street breeder, i would hazard their was high volumes of dogs if the puppy did indeed have KC as mother and pups should not have been in contact with any dogs (or did she have others)?........if she was then they may have been plucked straight from a kennel with alot of dogs coming in and out.

The pup has been to vet and treated but agree, does sound a bit dodgy and the older dog would be the bigger worry x

You could inform the breeder, but weaning a pup onto Bakers and letting it go with an infectious condition, I wonder whether they will care?!

Hope she is on the mend quickly.

If the person you got it from is a front for a mill operation then you are probably lucky that it's just kennel cough. Can you get any of your treatment costs back from her? Poor puppy..hope it'll be ok and recovers quickly.. :)

Poor little pup, I hope she makes a full recovery. Please keep an eye on your oldie, KC can affect older dogs quite badly. I would inform the so called breeder and they certainly should offer to pay your vets fees as pup was clearly ill before you had her, but in view of what you have told us I wouldn't hold your breath.:(

I was having a trawl through the puppy adverts some time back and started to notice that the same pair of hands were holding different puppies and breeds and they all had different phone numbers and contact details. There were lots! I forget how many I counted but it was in double figures. They were all located in the Lincolnshire region. I dug some more and it led back to a breeder in that area. I emailed the local council about it to complain but never got an answer.. What a surprise! All were advertised as private non breeding sellers.

Posted a long one last night but it didn.t load!
Puppy is a cavaier king charles spaniel (mum) x bischon (dad)
We found her on pets for homes website.
She was advertised as family reared, vaccinated, flea and wormed, both parents KC registered.
We saw her with her mum in a playpen in their kitchen.
She was the last pup to go from a litter of four. Mum seemed fine when we were there, wagging tail at us however the young girl removed her to the lounge because she was upset?
They bred from her saying she was 2yrs old and it was best for her to have a litter before she is spayed.
another lady was there too but the girls mother was out.
We bought her and asked for her paperwork from the KC and vet but aparantly her mother will send them on to us . I asked for her email but she doesn,t have one.
I booked an app with my vet for today as I am pretty sure she has not had her first jab? However took her yesterday due to the kennel cough. She is in very good shape other than the couch and a dose of fleas!
She is on anti-biototics and going for ist jab in ten days when she has recovered.
She is active, adorable, weeing and pooing and terrorising our yorkie!
BTW our yorkie has had KC twice in her life and is now vaccinated every year so she will be fine!

not to worry you but just because a dog is vaccinated against kc doesnt mean they wont still get it. Actually I dont vaccinate any of mine against is as have had too many instances of them still getting it anyway so I dont bother. The problem is there is a bacterial and a viral strain and the vaccine only covers one.

Also, the wont be any KC paper work given the pups are cross breeds.

Great that the wee guy seems healthy otherwise though. Kiddies benelyn for chesty coughs is good to sooth their cough but for such a wee pup check with your vet how much to give. Also, taking him/her into the bathroom when you have a shower so they inhale the steam always helps.

Well she certainly wouldn't have been fully vacc at 9 weeks, and I'm afraid you won't get kc papers for her(unless on working register) as kc do not register crissbreeds. It sounds as if your yorkie should have immunity, depending on strain of course, and hopefully your quick action will ensure pup is ok too.

As mentioned, there won't be KC papers because she is a crossbreed, so don't expect to get any papers.

Also, that 'having one litter before bitch is spayed' thing is nonsense, and the pups were ready just in time for Christmas....only one pup in the house, and she came with a dose of fleas....hmm, sorry, still a bit sceptical.

Like I say, hope they are both OK and I hope you didn't pay top whack :o

Suspicious mind ..me too. Fleas..no excuse for these. Is it possible that the bitch wasn't the pups mother hence why she was removed from the room?
Those ppl make me cross  just like the man who was selling the horse I viewed who claimed he had 40 mares all in foal!!

Just had a browse for this cross on Pets4Homes.

OP, enjoy your new pup, but for anyone looking on that site for pups of any breed, I'd suggest Googling the phone numbers, as mentioned, keep an eye on the backgrounds of the pictures, and keep your eyes wide open for the hard sell.

I had a similar thing to this, turned out my older dog had caught KC at agility but didn't show any signs of it... puppy luckily didn't have it too badly and was fine.

Hope yours are okay.

KC has an incubation of 4+ days so couldn't have been contracted in it's new home.

I would be very surprised if this was not a sold on puppy.

puppy has had flea/wormer at vets yesterday!
Can you explain what a sold on puppy means?
I have not had a puppy since 1997 so don,t know much. I am just a trusting person.
I believed youg girl when she said this was the last puppy and when she said she was going to move the mother as she was upset I did wonder why as she didn't show any signs of being upset to me.
fortunatly in other ways the puppy is in good health and sociable.

Alison, as you may have gathered from us cynical lot, there are a lot more shysters out there than there used to be, certainly since 1997. They take advantage of trusting people 'yes, we'll send out the KC papers' - when there are not going to be any KC papers. No email, but clearly able to access the internet in order to advertise the pups.
Who DOESN'T have an email address these days?

The advent of the internet and free advertising sites, more disposable income to spend, has meant that a lot of people have jumped on the dog breeding bandwagon as a way to make cash. Back in the day people had to pay for newspaper/magazine ads or rely on word of mouth and footwork to sell pups, now it's free and one less overhead for those who do want to make money.

Best case scenario is that people like you pay a couple of hundred quid towards someone's Christmas presents/drinks. Worst case scenario is paying up to and over £500 into the hands of an industrial operation, which I suspect goes towards much more sinister means.
