New puppy will need surgery - where do we stand with the breeder?

My local vets advertised that they were doing a dental offer recently. 20% off if I recall.

Well I have taken advantage of a few dental offers with a chain (vets4pets I think) over the years, which were about £100.

So I asked for a quote. I fully expected it to not be £100. I appreciate the last time I used a dental offer was about 4 years ago and everything has gone up etc.

I was not expecting this though ??

Another thing I found a bit off. My whippet is in remission for meningitis.

When he was diagnosed, he had a CT scan, spinal tap and blood tests. The vet was already pretty certain it was meningitis before all the tests, however they are routine to ensure they have made the correct diagnosis. Fine. Understood.

A few weeks ago, so after about 5 months in remission, he had a very short lived episode which thankfully self resolved, however when I spoke to the specialist and asked some questions about his steroid dosage if he does not improve, she wanted to give him another spinal tap. If he had not improved then I would have started steroid treatment. I absolutely would not have put him through another spinal tap when we know what is wrong with him!

Quick update - second vet saw the puppy last week, hernia very large - he could get more than three fingers inside - surgery booked for next week. Breed club now involved to mediate an agreement. Thank you to some of you for useful/helpful info and/or perspective - I’ve put a couple of other posters on ignore
Hope it all goes well.

Sorry to bring this up but please could I know the breeder? A friend is looking for a toller in the next year or two is all...

Puppy has made a complete recovery - we think the vet must have inserted extra springs as well as repairing the hernia as he’s been extra boingy since the operation. He has quite a large scar due to the size of the hernia but hopefully that will be less noticeable as he gets bigger.

Excellent news! I bet he’s feeling happier.
