Meet Murphy, our new Bernese pup.

We have had him one week now, he had his first vaccination yesterday and acted as if he didn't feel a thing! He already weighs 8.8kg at 9 weeks old....hmm, I think he's going to be a hefty thing!

These photos are a week old and I swear he has grown in that time!

Aawwwwww! You have just had my head flood with happy memories of when my ex had a Bernese called Jeeves. I had my rescue collie x gsd, Sykes and my lab, Barney. My ex's mum thought the dogs sounded like a firm of dodgy lawyers or accountants 'Jeeves, Barney and Sykes'!!

They are beautiful dogs although I do remember that Jeeves never really grew up - he was always a pup, except a VERY large one:D

Thanks everyone!

Yes he is a fluffy bear at the moment! He has settled in well so far, with no overnight whining and is getting rather boisterous now! He has been in the car a few times, he went to the village pub yesterday and met some locals, went to see the horse this morning too, he didn't seem too impressed. He had his first vaccination on Friday and acted as if he didn't feel a thing, so no trauma there! He is being microchipped on the next one too.

We've not had a full Bernese, we had a Border Collie x Bernese before who was a lovely, lovely dog. Hard to beat in fact. He got me looking into this breed and then I just fell in love with them!

Don't worry, more pics to follow!

omg stunning, love these dogs. is it true they only live till round 8 years old, as i read that years agi and it put me off as i thought that was soo young. i really really love them. he's a cutie.

Yes, they are not renowned for living much past 9 years old really which is sad of course but then again there are some that have lived to 12....

There is a saying I have come across a few times;

"3 years a young dog, 3 years a good dog, 3 years an old dog"

Our last dog (Border x Bernese) lived to 11 so a good age all things considering. Fingers crossed he remains a healthy disease free dog!
