After being adamant that we are not getting a dog, the OH emailed me a link to some GSD pups for sale. :rolleyes: Went to see them last Weds, and came home with one, with a stop over at Pets at Home on the way. I've never had dogs before, been around them loads, but never had my own as my mother is afraid of them. The OH has had dogs in the past, so he knows what he's doing at least. So without further waffle, this is Lukas, our 10 week old German Shepherd. He is an incredibly sweet, very playful pup who gets so knackered after playing that he can't even drink standing up. :rolleyes: And even though the OH insists Lukas is HIS puppy, that is so not the case. :D

Got him from a couple in Cinderford who are giving up breeding after 8 years. If I could remember their names, I'd tell ya. Will ask the man, he probably knows since it's "his" dog. ;)

Been looking at some of the threads on here dealing with food and am thinking of getting him on Orijen puppy, and will be popping by the butchers tomorrow to grab some nibbles for him.
 
What a sweetie,love the picture of him with the little girl. We've got our pup (not GSD) on Fish4Dogs puppy food and he is doing really well on it, its not cheap but I would recommend it .

The little girl would be most pleased if "fluffly puppy" could sleep with her in her room and go with her to nursery and pretty much just be where she is at all times lol.
Was looking at the fish4dogs one too, that's another one that seems to come well recommended.
 
Aw, that video is stomach-flippingly cute! And great lazy exercise :p just mind his little joints don't splat too hard on the ground :o I'd invest in a lazer pointer for the Brat but I know he would probably wreck the house, rip down walls and bust down doors trying to KILL THE MOVING SPOT!!!! He is currently chewing an empty plastic bottle right in my left ear...
 
He doesn't get to chase the funny moving spot often, but it sure is amusing when he goes for it! Mostly nose first into the cupboard doors...:D The OH got him a nice chunk of bone to gnaw on and he loves that. Will take it everywhere. Which I suppose beats him chewing on my wellies, the kids shoes, the OHs wellies, the stroller...you get the idea. :rolleyes: Lukas is also a fan of plastic bottles (and dang near anything he can sink his lil teeth into!)
 
You can try a couple of things, like very high pitched screeching/yelp which seems to be the method of choice on here! Like nip -Owww! and that shocks the dog out of it.

You can also redirect onto a ball or tuggy-toy and distract the dog into biting something else (this is helpful for training later for toy/ball focus).

Some people say a scruff and a very firm 'no' does the trick and I have done that on one or two occasions on mine but he is a different 'type' of dog, not all dogs are strong enough to take that at a young age and he really fugging sank the pearly whites into me that night!!!
Try not to punish the dog out of pain or anger, that is the worst thing to do and just turns it into a fight.
 
Thanks. He does get a bit carried away at times & gets a toy to bite on instead or my hand/arm/foot or an 'oww'. Grabbing him by the scruff would definitely not work with him, he is a rather sensitive soul in that regard. I'm sure it's a puppy thing that, with a bit of persistence, will be outgrown/trained. He does get very excited when he plays & interacts with people and other dogs.
ETA: he's never been punished for it, don't think it would be fair to punish him for being a pup!
 
Yeah, my fella still gets himself wound up sometimes if we're cuddling on the sofa but I always have a ball or a tuggy to shove in his gob to save myself :p
If he does get into a total frenzy just calmly put him away in his crate if he has one or out of the room for a few seconds and no eye contact/attention until he is calm and quiet again. Body language, stroking, voice, all very calm and slow to reduce excitement :) when we go pat-pat-pat-pat goodboyohwowheyheyhey! they *will* turn themselves inside out :p
 
lol that sounds like my boy. I'm wondering if the kids being all excited when he gets to come in the sitting room sets it off, as they get very happy and squealy when they're all in playing. Not as much outside, there's more room for him to run around and escape the little hooligans, but the wound up excitement is still there.
 
Aargh, don't show CC a sable! I must get a laser pointer for Pickle (not a GSD, wouldn't insult a shepherd with such a name), it looks like a brilliant way to keep him occupied. Lukas has obviously worked out not to bite the shiny red dot when it lands on his paw. :p
I would think it is very likely the kids getting excited that winds him up. I know its very hard because they will just want to play with him but try and encourage them to be calm with him and not encourage mad games because it can easily end in tears with razor sharp puppy teeth.
 
Ohhhhhhhhh bet Dex would be liking a laser pointer!! I do fear that like The Floomeiseter, walls would be removed and things broken!!

Pup is too cute- and those pics of him with the bigger GSD are adoreable!
 
Oh god, so squishy and fluffy! I want I want. We did a stop at PAH too after we just got my rottie puppy :D
carried him around the store and he was stolen from me many times so staff could cuddle him whilst we shopped(not that he minded!) :D
they all wanna cuddle them when they're little but not now i shouldnt think ;)
