Meet Arthur who joined the family two weeks ago. A 9ish year old lurcher who has settled in beautifully.
He joins my other golden oldie, and the two are getting on well.

Please don't be put off rehoming an older dog, they are often so much less demanding. Despite having no history on him and him being in kennels for some time, he is polite, affectionate, and with the exception of a couple of leg cocking incidents, has been spotless in the house. His recall is good (for his type), he seems disinterested in the horses and as of yet has not chewed the sofa when home alone.

We have had our oldie for just over 2 years and I am another convert to the senior dog. Ours was a bit depressed and shut down when she came but now is amazingly affectionate and cheeky. She has the best temperament and is good with our other dog. It has been so rewarding and I cannot recommend an older dog highly enough.

What a lovely boy :) Although I wouldn't call him a golden oldie at only 9 lol, he has years left yet hopefully, well done on giving him a home :)

Hes a lucky boy! Mine are both whippety type lurchers and I got my bitch from death row at the pound where she had shut down completely. She does and probably always will have issues caused by her earlier life, but I will be forever grateful that I have her and she now knows what its like to live with people who dont hit or kick or starve, and dont get upset when she does weird things due to her past. I've had her 3 years and she does get better year on year, but she wont ever forget what happened to her. It feels good to be able to look over at her now, roached over on her back on a nest of cushions on the sofa :)

Wonderful, what a gorgeous hound.
Well done for giving him a home and not overlooking him due to his age.
Nothing beats a sighthound!

How lovely to see the middle aged gentleman in a nice home enjoying himself!

Love the photo of them looking over the stable door. Hope you have many happy years together.

He's lovely! :) Our old lurcher, who we rescued aged 3, lived until 16 so I'm sure he will have lots of life left in him yet!
We've since got a 1 year old lurcher, as we wanted something young after our old dog passing away and have now also got a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound as a friend for him (both rescues). However I think I would definitely consider a middle aged dog next time as they're definitely much less demanding lol!

What a wonderful time he's having, lovely to see him bounding about so happy :) You must be thrilled with him, he's proper gorgeous!

What a lovely video, he must think he is in heaven. I challenge anyone to watch that without a big smile on their face!

You're so right! big smile here.:biggrin3: So lovely to watch such a happy dog, he's having a fabulous time. Well done OP.

I watched the video with a big smile and a tear in my eye. He looks so happy and he has has to wait till 9 years old to get the life he deserves :( well done OP for giving him a great new life, he obviously appreciates it x
