Had a lesson with a new RI at the weekend, have discovered that Fudges latest habit of running backwards at shadows isn't due to lack of confidence as my previous RI thought, he's taking the mick! & due to old RI I've basically been letting him get away with this behaviour for the last few months!
She has taught me how to deal with the running backwards by changing direction/pace every time I feel him start to spook, I practiced yesterday and by the end of my session we were actually managing to do some pretty accurate serpentines
New RI is coming back tomorrow to help me deal with the running back on the lunge too.
Also Fudge is finally at his target weight of 490kg set by my vet and saddler
So after posting at the weekend about giving up riding and accepting Fudge will never compete I'm feeling much more positive. (Still have t pluck up the courage to ride with the dreaded floodlights on
)
