I've had a few lessons now and am absolutely loving it, not quite got to canter stage yet but am very happy just pootling around an open field learning riding/seated trot etc.

I am not interested in jumping or competing etc (not that I would ever get to be that good anyway lol) in the future just want to go out on nice leisurely hacks on a nice sunny day. Anyone else just want/ already do this? Are there particular places that you can go to where they provide horse and offer the facility to just go out on hacks? I realise I have some way to go yet with my lessons but this is what I'd really like to do.

Yes, me, but I've been riding all my life!

I used to love competing when I was a child/teen but now I'm older I just don't like it at all really. It seems like so much stress and effort for the sake of a rozzie (and if you're really lucky, a few quid).

I MUCH prefer going for a long hack or working on exercises in the school (although I do love my jumping!).

Do what makes you happy. No point in doing it if you're not having a good time :)

You don't say where in the UK you are but there are often riding stables who offer long hacks, pub rides etc. If you're in surrey PM me and I can point to a few around here - but the UK is a big place so I'll bet you're not.

You do exactly what you feel you want to do and have fun with it. This is your hobby!

Thanks both. Yes I'm a little older (40's) so not looking to do anything too taxing so to spk ! Plus the older you are the harder you fall and longer it takes to mend IMO !

I'm in West Midlands Shay. Will ask at the RS I'm at. Lovely place as I'm in a group where oldest is 59 bless her! She has been going 2 yrs and says she still doesn't know what she's doing ha ha.

hi! I just joined the forum - I've just about got to the canter stage and loving it! I don't fully understand all the different types of showing/competing but ideally i'd love to get to the stage where I could hack out for hoursss!

It's a lovely feeling when you get bitten by the bug! You may find in times and get more confident that you want to try jumping and you may surprise yourself. I wouldn't rule anything out, The main thing is enjoying yourself and if you find something you're happy with then stick with it. I bet you will be back on the forum at some point saying how excited you are you have mastered canter. Best of luck for whatever you choose to do. x

If you are in the Warwickshire/Solihull border I can offer you some advice/suggestions.
