Bought myself some new long riding boots for every day wear. Very comfortable, go over my chunky calves.... but my the back of my heels are rubbed raw. Is not helping that I spend 20 mins on ground work first, which includes jogging after beast on long lines. Has anyone any goto ideas for protecting heels before I cant walk! Don't want to go thick in socks as still have to get foot/ calf in boot, I'm thinking along the lines of gel heel pads, already have gel soles.

Heel raisers or don't wear them for the groundwork bit as most riding boots are not comfortable for walking in for long, I find even my worn in ones are fine to ride in but I wouldn't want to walk far in them.

Our local tack shop has these things: https://greenhawk.com/collections/footwear-accessories/products/equifit-gel-bands

You can get them off Amazon etc without the equitax, sold as "ankle gel sleeves" etc. Originally for wearing with skates. I have a pair (that don't go over my heels, but do cover the back of my achilles, where I get rubs), and they are great. I also got heels rubbed completely raw from doing groundwork in a new-to-me pair of riding boots, and these absolutely saved me while healing!
