hi everyone - just reading H&H over a cup of tea - reading about the new rihs championship - the old lodge young breeding horse championship. its a class for stallions and mares - they will have one qualifying class and then the final will be in the international arena - im sure my boy would love it!

does anyone know anymore about it?? im very interested in learning a little more about it!

My copy of H & H hasn't arrived yet. Interesting news about the new championship - I've seen no mention anywhere and the Hickstead website is useless!

Just checked with Hickstead's PR man and it's for mares & stallions of 8 years and under jumping 1.30-1.40m.

My horse has no "balls" but can still stand at stud????????????

Perhaps I should try and get him into the class as that would really confuse them!!!!!

That is a valid point actually i.e. as it is supposed to be to identify young horses with good breeding potential there is a case for it being open to horses from which frozen semen is still available. Would be interesting to hear what Old Lodge would say if the query was raised.

He jumped his first proper 1.55m GP in Nantes the other week and went very well having only the last fence down in the first round. The plan will be to keep him fresh and try and pick and choose shows with classes that suit him as we don't want to blast him around accumalators, 140-1.45m speed classes. The plan is to do perhaps the new Renault classes for experience and hopefully get him abroad for a few shows.

Cool !

And sorry.....i'd forgotten that this series was only (!) 1.30m / 1.40m lol!

The Renault classes make much more sense in his case

Well done in Nantes though...you must be pleased !

No he was gelded when he was 5/6 yo (done over the winter). He still thinks he is a stallion, mind you last year he was almost mounted by a stallion in Hamburg which would have brought tears to his eyes!!!

You write to quick!!!

Yes very pleased. The show was a big step up and he was a lot less experienced than the other horses who were all 10 yo plus. He coped with it very well so it is just trying different things to see how it goes. He has age on his side so no rush (apart from winning some money to pay for the upkeep!!!)
