Just wondering if anyone can remind me what this is, I need to ask my mum to get me some in the week!

Almost 4 weeks since Dan was clipped, he's horridly hairy again, a complete git to clip with sedaline, and will be doing him pretty much alone for the first time (except kidnapping someone for his elbows!) Figure I might as well try this rather than have the usual arguments! Worked well for another horse on the yard.

Thanks,
Sol

Domosedan gel.

Should be more effective than Sedalin, but not as good as injection. As with sedalin give the gel, then leave the horse in peace for at least 15 mins to allow it to take effect.

Make sure it does go under the tongue though, doesn't work if they swallow it! I know of someone who gave it like sedalin and it didn't work at all.

sedalin takes approx 45 mins to take effect not 15!! heard mixed reports about the domo gel and i think you have to be more accurate in the dosage v body weight.

Sorry I didn't phrase that very well.

Sedalin needs at least 45 mins, however detomidine has a quicker onset of action than ACP, and I probably wouldn't wait that long with domosedan as you might find the effects are wearing off before you finish what you're doing. Domosedan when injected i/v has an effect for around 45-60 mins but this is very variable depending on the individual horse and what you are doing to them. So I would expect the gel to have a similar or possibly shorter duration of action.

Thank you! Suppose we don't know until we try it, but if it does work, that will be great (: Will make sure I read the details and give the right dose etc. and leave him to chill a while (always do this anyway) before starting!

Hi, I used Domosedan gel on my TBX hunter who is a pain to clip and usually needs injection. This gel worked great. Took about 45 mins to fully take effect, and lasted about 45-60 mins. Also he did not sweat up as much as he did with an injection. Would definitely use it again.
He did hate the taste off it though - he let me squirt it in then about 5 seconds later when the taste hit him he went nuts, broke head collar and ran around the box backwards!!!!

We used this for my sisters horse to be clipped, it absulutely knocked him out! was like he has been injected, he didn't sweat like he does with normal sedative though! It is definetly stronger than sedalin. I would probably give him half the dose I gave him next time! (please note I did only give him the amount the vet advised! it obviously just really got to him)

Few Pictures of what Henry looked like after domosedan gel (considering he is a tb x with quite an attitude who isn't normally very sleepy on sedalin)
