Hi, I am after some ideas please on how to stop my ISH getting a front shoe off in the field. He does it about every 2 weeks. Ive had 3 farriers and tried putting on 2 pairs of over reach boots, but no joy, Do you have any other ideas please?

I found the thick neoprene overreach from Horze worked best. (Neoprene bell boots they’re called I think. They come in lots of colours and are about £14? But they come up small so I would definitely size up). We’ve ditched the shoes now 🤣

Shoesecure are brilliant. My wb kept loosing she's and damaging his feet in the process. I used shoesecure which solved the problem then I changed farrier. I didn't need them after that!!

Bear in mind that the more grounded the front feet by being on the forehand the more the foot gets "left behind" with a late breakover and forging/removing shoes is more likely. With the right work horses actually move differently in the field, you can't prevent it entirely, but it's playing a big part in this.

Sorry to hijack but just interested. Would side clips help, as they help in the break over? My horse, dare I say, has good feet, doesn't loose shoes really, 2 in 5 years, and had side clips. Friends horse has front clips and is prone to loosing shoes!

Quickening the breakover through shoeing seems to have very mixed results, side clips and how you dress the toe on the front foot can provoke debates - yes it might help keep shoes on front and back, but if for example the hoof wall is being rasped to keep the toes short, or there is a broken back angle or any other issue then it's causing other issues. A well trimmed and/or shod hoof (and there aren't loads of them out there, it's easier to cheat and make the toes LOOK short it seems!) and a horse working up through its thoracic sling is going to be the best combo to help with this.

Thanks, that's very interesting. When I got him his biomechanics weren't good and we are working on gradually getting him right again.
