New splint not causing any lameness...?

My new 4 year old has just had a splint appear half way down his leg on the splint bone. Its tiny - the size of my thumbnail and he doesn't react in any way to it being prodded, poked or the area squeezed. He is sound as a pound on it.

Should I worry about it? Do anything or just leave it if its not causing any problems? He is now wearing boots because I think it may be the result of a knock.

Any ideas?

We had something similar, I was told by my vet to keep an eye on it and as long as there was no lameness or it didn't increase in size it was fine, and as far as riding was concerned for two weeks to only come out of walk on soft surfaces.

That was a few months ago and it hasn't caused us any issues

If there is no heat in it & he's not lame - I would keep riding. Be a bit careful for a couple weeks - no hunting, fast work on hard surfaces etc

Oh - keep wearing boots, mine knock his (old healed) splint jumping xc & was a very sorry boy

I would agree with Clarew... a couple weeks only very slow work on good surface,... if you carry on, you may find it gets bigger and then causes a problem.. better to wait a little now and be a bit cautious than regret it later
