New sport in the UK?Horseback archery!

Its not actually a completely 'official' sport in the uk.Theres only recently a governing body. Can i ask,are there any horsey peeps that would be interested in doing this?I think it looks pretty cool ;)

I do archery (longbow) and my Dad has been desperately trying to persuade me to train my filly for horseback archery when she is backed. She does have the right attitude but I'm not sure that I'm brave enough!

Having said that, I have admired the short horseback bows for some time. :D

Dont be afraid!Iv tried it,one of the EASIEST horse sports possible, its great fun!Or is it the training bit?Its great fun anyway. And any horse can be used.So shes perfect! :D:)

Thanks, I'm very proud of her. :D I think that it's the possibility of having

young horse + no hands on the reins + deadly object flying through the air

(OK it's moving away from me but...)

Maybe I'll rethink after she's been ridden for a year or so. :)

There's a place that does training in surrey/sussex (somewhere that way) the centre for horseback combat I think? I've been thinking of having a go for a while / teaching my beasties... Looks great fun. But then I have a thing for stuff like this - mock jousting is my favourite game at home :D

I've done field archery for years and love the idea of horseback archery. I did try shooting an arrow with my mare behind me, well she was behind me to start with!! Don't think she likes the idea. The mini Shetland seemed quite fascinated but I think my feet would drag a bit!

Shame there isn't anywhere local to me as I would love to give it a try.

My bro is desperate to try this with his horse polly! I was going to try and get him a taster session for his birthday, we are on the hants/wilts border anyone know somewhere we could go?? He is also going to take her to do reenactment with the sealed knot!

Yeah it is, copied from wiki:

The broader class of tent pegging games also includes ring jousting (in which a galloping rider tries to pass the point of his weapon through a suspended ring); lemon sticking (in which the rider tries to stab or slice a lemon suspended from a cord or sitting on a platform); quintain tilting (in which the rider charges a mannequin mounted on a swivelling or rocking pedestal); and Parthian (i.e., mounted) archery

It looks good fun though.
