I am so much happier today after a miserable 3 weeks. My stables were finished new years day (well only 3 built). OH has worked non stop with me fetching and carrying, climbing ladders etc. We had 2 days off xmas and boxing day looking after family and then back to building. Horses were of course scared of these new wooden buildings, like they had never seen anything like it before. I have 5 horses so they are sharing but at least I can groom, get rugs off etc etc. I am so relieved. yay (dances round the room)

Lets hope for no more gales.

Posh new stables, how lovely

and even more satisfying knowing that you did all the work yourselves. Are you planning on building another 2 as well?

I'm still revamping mine, wish I'd had the cash to rip down the lot and put in posh ones. I still have 4 stalls FULL of scrap iron, one will have to be demolished to get a Aga type range out of it!!!!!!!!! OH put his precious quad in a freshly painted one a couple of days ago and it grew overnight, we had to dismantle the front wall to get it out!!!!!!

Another one has a ride on mower in it

Not sure we can face building another 2

(if we do it will be in the summer), I need to let my OH recover from building these!!

Luckily insurance paid as we lost the others in the gales. How do you manage without stables, I was completely lost without mine

My OH jokes, I think, that he'd like our horse barn to break then we could claim off the insurance for a nice shiny new one!

My fields have run in sheds for the horses so they use those sometimes, if we are riding we have got seven usable stables, but rarely use them. I did have a week where I had five in at night and then thought "What the heck am I doing?" so separated the bullies from the wimps and life is 100% easier, small child likes to do the hay because it means she gets to drive the quad so I don't even do that, I get to stand around with the horses and give cuddles while she works.

We've been really lucky so far here, not much rain or snow, I expect to wake up every day to 2' of the white stuff.

This is what the stalls were like when we moved here:

WOW, nice new stables! great.

I couldn't cope without my stables! Mine are nothing posh. Converted outbuildings. They look like shed on the outside but inside they are lovely.

Ran out of edit time. We are getting there, one side is usable now. The walls were 9' high, double thickness oak, serious wood! and painted black

Pretty dark and grim.

The barred door is the goat stall.

Enfys Your stables look great. Lovely thick wood.

I have 2 laminitics so could not do without any stables in the summer. 3 weeks has been a struggle as we have had rain and lots of mud.
