Well my big plans for stables didn't happen again :( The plan was to build inside the dutch barn so the hay is near the stables but we ran out of cash and daylight.

This was the plan for the layout

In the end we have knocked together two stables out of gates in an existing barn. This leaves one big stable open to the field for the colt and two inside ones for the girls. I did want to have them all together to make it easier but it's better than nothing :)

Filled with shredded paper - only took 4 bags in each

And a shot from the door

I'm right up in the far north of Scotland so we get screwed for delivery :( Just got them from our local farm market. They worked out about £80 each, then a couple of quid for brackets and hooks (easy fasten ones from Robinsons). The post in the middle had to have the flood hacked out to put the sleeve that it slots into in. It works really well and they will be able to groom each other over the gates. Not so good if you have got horses prone to jumping out...

All in all it cost about £300 for 2 10 by 14 foot stables :)

They look pretty good to me, and are a great long term/short term solution until you can fulfil your grand plan of permanent indoor stables. As long as they do the job they are meant to, that's all that really matters.

Thanks :)

They are temporary but once the stables proper are done these can be pig night pens. We have a Christmas pig but are going to get some Glouscester Old Spots and breed them :)
