We are (hopefully) going to be moving soon SSTC! Lovely new house, room for partners business and a bit more land. Problem is no stables.
1) Had a quote for a block of 3, 12x12 basic stables with 12 x 8 tack room, ground works and a concrete apron and soakaways. It hase come in a little shy of £10,000 inc VAT.
Is this a good price? We are in Norfolk, so if anyone knows anyone else good to ask to quote plese let me know.
2) Our horse mainly live out. We have 3, 2 of which are little natives and one out on loan. The stables are only used if v bad weather (tonight for example) or if the coloured one has been bathed for a show. So I have ben thinking is it worth paying £10,000 for something that may only be used occasionaly. So, I have been thinking - There is already a ramshackled pole barn on site for the lorry and hay/staw, how about perhaps getting a 2nd hand agricutural building or a dutch barn built on to the side. Then block build a secure tack room and one or two 'pens' or get some of those sectional stables from Robinsons. The rest of the area could have compcted hardcore floor and be left open at the front as a giant field shelter that could be partitioned off if everyone needed to come in.
Has anyone ever done anything similar? Do 2nd hand buildings or dutch barns ever come available or would it be cheaper to stick to conventional stables. OH and I are very 'handy' so doing the work woiuld be no probs.
