New style grooming kits V old style grooming kits

Second the blue mane-and-tail brush! That + Mane and Tail, 's the only way to keep control of Rastafarian Pony's tail! Otherwise, I mainly use an old blue-bristled dandy brush that I found lying beside the field from which I got him. And a hoofpick with a bristly bit. I have a Borstiq mud brush too, won it for something, and he really likes that one.

*whispers* What are these :o ?? (Meaning the items in the pics, I'm ok with the old towel...)

Lol!

The shedding blade is an absolute godsend and pony's lip wobbles madly when it's used on his belly. He tries to groom the wall to reciprocate! I don't know how you're supposed to brush off a mud loving cob in full winter coat otherwise!

I confess I use lots of pig oil for the feathers/mane/tail. So much easier!

I'm an old fogey too... and still have, and use several old faithful dandy brushes that must be well over the 25's age range now.. some may say that they are balding though, but still do a bloody good job. Also have several metal curry combs that I use on the horse to remove the mud... waste of time using them on the other brushes for 'cleaning'! I think I got them in the early 90's, and still going strong.
Modern day rubbish is, just that, rubbish. Doesn't do the job well, and if by chance it does, it may last a fraction of the oldies life span. I intend to remain an old fogey for many years yet!

Yes, I am still using my trusty metal curry from the late 80s! I love the new mane and tail brush but not so much the rest of the matchy Bentley kit I have.

So whats the best kit container then? I have used the old tray style, a plastic trug, a bucket, a bag style with handles and a lidded plastic box but none of them have ever won my heart.

An economy plastic tool box from B & Q. Also strong enough to double as an emergency mounting block.

N - yes, the grooming kit container comes in many forms and none of them are perfect. I did not get on with the bag, even though it looked nice, it was a real bind to use.

I find my favorite grooming kit is one by cottage craft - http://www.onlineforequine.co.uk/ho...grooming-kits-bags/cottage-craft-grooming-kit (hope that link works)

It has good, quality wooden handled brushes. My only complaints would be that the comb is awful and I have never actually used it, I gave it to my niece as she made a mismatched little grooming kit for her miniature rocking horse!:D Also, it comes with a horse shaped sponge (cute) but it was very small so I never really used it, and the curry comb is so small it made no sense to use it for a huge Welshie who loves to roll! Other than that it is a very good kit. Also, I find the shedding brush is useful around this time when they're moulting but I always worry it's removing too much hair (thats probably just me worrying again lol) I also bought a magic brush on saturday and it was £3.99 well spent!:)
