Hey guys,

I am considering splashing out on a new style " technical" SJ jacket - the type which still looks traditional like this: http://www.exclusivelyequestrian.com//product_info.php?products_id=730

Does anyone have any views on them or/and recommendations? I would like to get something super lightweight and breathable as I like to wear my BP over the top and atm my tweed is just too hot and restrictive.

thanks :)

Ive tried a few - it really depends on the cut & style - personally I HATE a short cut jacket & see lots of these on the younger generation who tend to buy them couple of sizes too small aswell lol..

I tried on below at a show earlier in the summer & defo the most flattering fit Ive found in a technical jacket - Its now on my Santa list:)

Thanks show pony, think I need to get out and trying out lots!

I think its a shame to watch someone in a super matchy swish outfit but the jackets so tight that its poped open half way round the course!

I have a Prestatie Vittoria and I love it. So flattering and much more comfortable than the old fashioned style.

Sorry, but I think most of these new "technical" jobbies are universally VILE. Make people look like they're wearing plastic bags, with their arses hanging out.. What's wrong with the old fashioned riding jacket?

The fact that you can move a hell of a lot more freely with the new style jackets, mine is stetchy and has darts on the arms and at the back. It's showerproof so you don't get totally soaked in the rain, and they are washable (mine is actually wipe clean!) so you only need the one for a stay over show.

I have seen some really badly fitted traditional jackets as well as new techincal ones so i dont think one is any better than the other. It comes down to your shape as to what jacket fits, traditional or otherwise. I have seen a few people straining out of trational jackets convinced they fit so thats not a new problem solely restricted to technical jackets :wink3:
I have an Animo, i got it when they were new out and love it, easy to look after and fits well. I dont personally think it looks less smart than a traditional jacket, as im broad in the shoulders having that stretch in the jacket is fab.

OP i would try and find somewhere to try on a few, the one in the link doesnt do anything for me im afraid, the cut and material dont look fab. Look at Pikeur as they do some lovely ones and they always look well cut and the material doesnt look shiney. I've seen a few different ones that i liked the look of but cant remember them off the top of my head.

Urm....They're old fashioned! If riding wants to continue to attract & keep young talent then there has to be movement with the times & that includes updating & modernising riding equipment.
Anyway the modern jackets aren't compulsary people can choose to wear what style they prefer....including the heavy, impractical, restrictive & old fashioned jackets if they so wish ;)
I remember laughing like a drain when my cousin got one of the first skull caps & swore I'd never wear one because they looked stupid :D

Montanna that jacket is absolutely divine. I'm torn because I want to know how much it is but I also don't want to know because I won't be able to afford it :(

thanks for the feedback guys, I will go try and find a shop with a bunch to try on or hold off until the big events in spring to get to some trade fair events.

I do love my traditional tweed but like others say, it just doesnt offer what I need to also wear a body protector which I like to do when jumping. I think its good that riding has moved with the times and now people have way more selection.

I have just ordered from these people

They are made by Mears so are traditional, but they use the new technical fabric so it is more comfortable and light weight.

I have tried on all the "new style" jackets Animo Equiport etc but found none of them hung nicely, the Flying Changes jackets are lined unlike the other makes so they keep their shape but also look modern!

You can do any colour combination and I have even had the vents at the back edged in a different colour so they are pretty much identical looking to the Animo for half the price.

If its good enough for the GB Teams .... :)

Ooh I've just found it on line....it's not actually that bad price wise!
Are the sizings true or do they come up small?

Yes the price is fab and at every show I get at least one person comment on it. I'm a size 8 but bought a 10 as I have 28G boobs! I kind of wish I had bought a size 8 but as they are so fitted I can get away with a 10. I would say they run true to size. :)

Wow what a bargain! how does the sizing come up Gemma? that looks ideal for me as it would be a second jacket just for showjumping.

I would say I'm a small 10 and got size small and I would say it fits just right, quite fitted but its stretchy so not too tight :) although I could prob get away with the medium if I wanted it a bit looser! Its a nice jacket for the price!

I have a Pikeur Sarissa jacket which is lovely! So much more comfortable and flattering than my old jacket. It's a bit blingy so I'm not sure it would be any good for showing / not a problem for me as I only jump Pie.

My daughters just bought a Spooks jacket. I was very surprised at the quality as I had heard the fabric was a bit cheap like. She tried an Animo at the same time & actually prefered the Spooks over the Animo. She finds it perfect in hot weather & prefers to keep it on as she says it keeps her cool xx

I have a hkm marlberg nod yes it is shorter but is more traditional the spooks etc, I got mine from FFM and it was under £50
